Update the Samsung Galaxy S III (i747)

  

Previous update summary

On June 18, 2014, AT&T and Samsung released a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747). This software package updates the OS to Android 4.4.2 (Kit Kat). The size of the update file is 358 MB, and is available for download via Wi-Fi only.

    • Restyled status and navigation bars
    • Battery performance improvements
    • Google Cloud Printer support
  • Beats Music AT&T preload
      

What to expect after the update

Although there should be no impacts to settings or data, we recommend that you back up your media files to an SD card, a PC, or using a favorite application (from the Play Store), prior to upgrading the software. How to update

  1. Connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. From the home screen, press the Menu key, and then tap Settings.
  3. From the "More" tab, scroll to and tap About device > Software update > Check for updates.
  4. Status Message: Downloading...
  5. Status Message:A new software update from AT&T is available for your device. This software update will take several minutes and will not delete any personal data on your device. All service (including emergency calls) will be suspended during the install.
    • NOTE:  If not connected to Wi-Fi, will see the following message and will need to follow instructions: Software Update A software update is available for your device that requires Wi-Fi connectivity for download progress to begin.  Connect to a Wi-Fi network?  For a list of free Wi-Fi networks click here AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots.
  6. Tap Continue.
    • Status Message: Downloading software update, Please do not leave Wi-Fi coverage area
  7. Tap Restart Device:
    • Status Message: Update Complete: The software has been successfully installed.  Your device is now ready to use
  8. Tap Done
        

How to verify the update

From the home screen, press the Menu key > Settings > "More" tab > About device Scroll to and tap About phone.  The following information will be displayed:

    • Android version: 4.4.2
    • Baseband version: I747UCUFNE4
    • Build number: KOT49H.I747UCUFNE4

On November 20, 2013, AT&T and Samsung released a software update for the Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747).   This software package updates the baseband version to I747UCUEMJB. The update also supports Samsung Galaxy Gear".

How to update

Customers will receive an alert and be prompted to download the update, or have the option to initiate the update manually. When prompted, you can postpone the update up to 3 times, and 4 hours per occurrence. After the update has been postponed for the maximum allowable time, your device will automatically download and install the update.

  1. To initiate the update manually, connect to a Wi-Fi network.
  2. From the home screen, press the Menu key, and then tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to and tap About device > Software update > Check for updates > OK.
  4. Status Message: Downloading
