Question 1

What are the benefits of upgrading to fiber internet?

Accepted Answer

Fiber optic internet uses thin glass cables and light to send data, allowing for much faster speeds than traditional cable or DSL internet.

There are several key benefits to choosing fiber internet:

Much higher speeds: Fiber internet can reach much faster speeds than DSL or cable. This makes it ideal for streaming HD videos, online gaming, and using many devices at once.
Equal upload and download speeds: Unlike most other internet types, fiber gives you the same fast speed whether you’re uploading or downloading. This is great for video calls, sharing large files, and creating content online.
Reliable connectivity: Fiber internet stays fast and stable, even during busy times when many people are online. This means fewer interruptions and a smoother online experience.

Fiber optic internet offers fast, reliable, and consistent service, making it one of the best choices for anyone who wants a top-quality home internet connection.

Question 2

What is fiber internet?

Accepted Answer

With the AT&T Wi-Fi Gateway, you'll not only get automatic software and firmware updates - troubleshooting, replacement, and repair are included as part of your AT&T service.¹

Question 13

How do fiber optic internet and 5G technologies work together?

Accepted Answer

Fiber is the true backbone of wireless technology. Fiber connects 5G cell towers back to the internet and is capable of supporting the demands of the 5G wireless network. Copper wirelines are simply not fast enough to deliver the speeds promised by 5G service. For this reason, 5G technology — including 5G home internet — could not function without a robust fiber optic network.

You may hear competitors of AT&T tout their 5G network, but none of them have the fiber optic footprint that AT&T has. In fact, AT&T Fiber internet is available in 21 states, and the expansion is ongoing.

Question 14

Can I use my own router with AT&T Fiber internet?

Accepted Answer

You can use your own router with AT&T Fiber internet, but we recommend sticking with the AT&T-provided gateway for the best experience and full access to all of our features and support.

If you’re a tech enthusiast and want to customize your setup, you can connect your personal router behind our gateway.

Question 15

How secure is AT&T Fiber optic internet compared to traditional internet services?

Accepted Answer

AT&T Fiber internet delivers top-notch security right to your home. Because fiber optic internet uses advanced technology and dedicated lines, it’s much harder for hackers to tap into your connection compared to older, traditional internet services. Plus, we include built-in security features to help keep your devices and data safe. When you choose fiber, you’re choosing a more secure way to stay connected.

Question 16

What’s the difference between fiber internet and DSL?

Accepted Answer

Fiber internet and DSL are two different technologies. Fiber optic internet uses ultra-fast light signals through special cables, giving you lightning-fast speeds and reliable service. DSL runs over regular phone lines, which can be slower and less consistent. If you’re curious if fiber is available in your neighborhood, check the fiber internet map to find fiber optic internet near you.

Question 17

Does weather impact fiber internet service?

Accepted Answer

Not really! One of the best things about AT&T Fiber internet is its resilience — even during rough weather. Unlike some older technologies, fiber optic cables are less likely to be affected by rain, snow, or storms, so you can count on a strong, reliable connection year-round.

Question 18

Can I bundle AT&T Fiber internet with other AT&T services?

Accepted Answer

You sure can! With AT&T, you can bundle your fiber internet with other popular services like wireless to save money and keep everything simple. Bundling makes managing your services easier, and you get the convenience of one service provider for all your needs.
