What does this mean? What action should you take?
What You Should Know
The following information is provided to assist you in becoming more aware of the Nation's transition to digital television:
On June 12, 2009, the nationwide switch to digital television broadcasting will be complete, but your local television stations may switch sooner. Currently, TV stations are broadcasting in two formats - digital and analog. Those of us with digital television sets already benefit from digital TV. Those of us with older analog TVs with an over-the-air antenna may get programming in analog format only. After a TV station switches to digital broadcasting, it will stop broadcasting in analog and you will have to make some changes if you watch free over-the-air TV broadcasts on an analog TV with an antenna. Watch your local stations to find out when they will turn off their analog signal and switch to digital-only broadcasting.
But, just because your local TV station stops its analog broadcasts doesn't mean you need to get a new television set. Buying a digital TV is just one option. There are low-cost converter boxes to change the digital signal to one that your current analog set can receive. If you have video services from AT&T | DISH Network or AT&T U-verseSM, you do not need to make any changes to televisions connected to these services. Also, analog TVs should continue to work as before to receive low power, Class A or translator television stations and with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products. Information about the DTV transition is available from your local television stations, at www.DTV.gov, 1 888-CALL-FCC (TTY 1 888-TELL-FCC) or AT&T at 1 866-644-5888 and www.att.com/dtv2009, and from www.dtv2009.gov or 1 888-DTV-2009 (TTY 1 877-530-2634) for information about subsidized coupons.
