AT&T Connects with Communities
your safety
is our number one concern
Children's education
Currently, AT&T works with organizations that promote online safety education and awareness, including Enough is Enough, iKeepSafe (Internet Safety Coalition), and the Ad Council's Internet Safety Coalition. Each organization strives to educate parents and children on how to be safe on the Internet. In September, 2008, AT&T and iKeepSafe launched an online safety educational program with D.A.R.E. officers at schools in various parts of the country, targeting children grades 1-5 as well as parents, teachers and local community organizations. The program is expected to reach more than 5 million children. We also will be teaching high school children how to protect their privacy, through a program with iKeepSafe and the American Counselors Association.
Later this year, we plan to work with Enough is Enough on a program that targets the specific needs of at-risk youth.
We're also an active partner with National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
Community/parent education
We are supporting Enough is Enough's launch of Online Safety 101 kit for parents, which includes a primer on how to keep their children safe on the Internet, as well as useful tools and services that assist their efforts, including AT&T's Smart Limits program. We also work with the efforts of the National Partnership for Safe Computing, which supports congressional townhalls and other educational efforts by federal officials. Through the iKeepSAfe/DARE program, we will hold community forums for parents on the latest trends on the Internet.
Small business/working moms
We regularly work with small business associations to help them educate members on cyber security measures they should take to keep their businesses safe online.
Senior community
We have helped thousands of English and Spanish-speaking mature adults across the country learn how to operate their cell phones – no matter the service provider – safely and efficiently through coaching classes with our partner organizations, OASIS and SeniorNet. We've also shown senior consumers how to navigate the Internet safely through our Safe Surfing classes.
Public policy community
We are active in public policy arena, supporting the research and work by the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI). This year, we are underwriting their Online On Wednesday series, which features a panel discussion in Washington, D.C., one Wednesday each month on a different aspect of online safety.
