Configuration Guide for Existing AT&T High Speed Internet customers.
We have done our best to address every configuration and all the hardware we currently provide to our DSL subscribers. There may be older modems and DSL protocols that require additional configuration for the Xbox to function properly. The majority of AT&T High Speed Internet customers will encounter two main DSL configurations, Residential or Business DSL. Business lines are provided with a static IP address. Residential lines are assigned an IP dynamically. Residential lines can be configured with an Ethernet modem, USB, or 2Wire residential gateway. Business users will typically be configured with a 2Wire residential gateway, a hub, or other network equipment (for example, routers, firewall). All AT&T High Speed Internet is currently provisioned with an Efficient 5360 modem.
The best resource for setting up the Xbox to your AT&T High Speed Internet is on the Xbox.com website. This information is provided as additional help if you are having trouble connecting after exhausting the Xbox resources. Listed below are the different configurations and the steps for troubleshooting set-up on the Xbox in all of the SBC regions.

If you have Residential DSL and connect your Xbox directly to an Ethernet-based modem follow these steps to configure the Xbox. We currently provide the Efficient 5360 modem.

- Place an Xbox Live enabled disc in your Xbox.
- Click on the Dashboard link.
- Click on the Network Set-Up link.
- Click on the IP Addresses link.
- Set IP addresses to automatic. IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway will auto populate once the Xbox establishes a connection.
- Click on the DNS servers link.
- DNS should be set to automatic configuration. Primary DNS and Alternate DNS will auto populate once the Xbox establishes a connection.
- Go to the PPPoE settings link.
- If you were given an AT&T High Speed Internet username and password, put them in the provided fields and set the configuration to on. If your DSL connection is DHCP-based, you don't need to provide any credentials in this screen. This is the same email address and password you use to authenticate your DSL. (i.e. yourname@att.net)
- Click Connect and go to the Connect Status page. After some time, you should see four green status bullets on your TV: Cables Connected, IP Settings Configured, DNS Resolved, and Connected to Xbox Live
If you do not connect to Xbox live, check your cables and be sure the above Network settings are configured correctly.

If you have Residential DSL connected through a 2Wire residential gateway follow these steps to configure the Xbox:
- Customers with a 2Wire home gateway will need to use a network hub if connecting more than one device to the residential gateway. Refer to the hub manufacturer's directions on how to connect the Ethernet hub to the 2Wire and the Xbox and the other devices to the hub. You will not need a hub only if you are only connecting the Xbox to the residential gateway.
- Place an Xbox Live enabled disc in your Xbox.
- Click on the PPPoE settings link.
- Set configuration to OFF. If you already have a configured 2Wire residential gateway, it will authenticate your connection automatically.
- Click Connect and go to Connect Status page. After some time, you should see the following green status bullets on your TV: Cables Connected, IP Settings Configured, DNS Resolved, and Connected to Xbox Live
If you do not connect to Xbox Live!, check your cables and be sure Network settings are configured correctly.
Note: If you see a DNS not resolved error, make sure that your gateway is properly connected to the DSL modem. The Xbox will be able to receive an IP address from the residential gateway, but it will fail when trying to contact Xbox Live servers if the residential gateway is not connected to the DSL modem. If you continue to receive to receive a DNS not resolved error you may need to open up the following ports on your router:
- UDP 88
- UDP 3074
- TCP 3074
- UDP 53
- TCP 53
Please refer to the gateway or router manufacturer's instructions for manually opening up additional ports. For the 2WIRE gateway follow this procedure to open the above ports:
- From a computer connected to the home gateway's network, open Internet Explorer and go to 2WIRE. If you have set up an administration password for the residential gateway, type your password.
- Click on the Firewall Configuration link
- Make sure that the Outgoing checkboxes for Other Protocols, HTTP, and HTTPS are checked. If not, click on the check boxes to enable them and click on the Update Firewall Configuration button.
- On the Xbox dashboard, click on the Settings button, and try to reconnect by clicking on the Connect button.

If you have Business DSL, static IP, connected through a hub follow these steps to configure your Xbox. This also applies if you have a 2Wire residential gateway, and want to assign a static IP address to your Xbox.
Note: Check with manufacturer of hub for more information. The 2Wire gateway is usually configured to automatically provide an IP address to the Xbox. If you choose to assign a fixed IP address to your Xbox make sure it conforms to the gateway configuration (i.e. address range) and that all IP addresses assigned to your computers and other networked devices are unique. You will need a unique IP address for the Xbox.
- Place the Xbox Live enabled disc in your Xbox.
- Go to the Network Set-Up link.
- Go to the IP Addresses link.
- Set the IP addresses with valid addresses provided by your ISP or gateway.
- Make sure that you are placing the right subnet mask value in this field. If you type in a wrong subnet mask, the Xbox will be able to connect to the Xbox Live! servers but you may experience connectivity problems while playing multiplayer games.
- Click on the DNS servers link.
- Check your DSL setup documentation from SBC for the primary and secondary DNS server addresses. If you are connecting to a residential gateway, place the IP address of the residential gateway in the primary DNS server and leave the secondary DNS server address blank.
- Click on the PPPoE settings link.
- Set configuration to OFF.
- Click Connect and go to Connect Status page. There should be 4 status bullets: Cables Connected, IP Settings Configured, DNS Resolved and Connected to Xbox Live
If you do not connect to Xbox live, check your cables and be sure Network settings are configured correctly.
If you received a Compaq PC with a PCI-DSL modem with your AT&T High Speed Internet subscription you will not be able to attach the Xbox without performing one of the two following operations:
- Remove the DSL modem from the Compaq PC, install a network card, and purchase a residential gateway. We recommend the 2Wire. Proceed as described above for customers who are connection through a residential gateway.
- Alternately, you can install a new network card, if you do not already have one, install Microsoft Internet connection sharing, and proceed as described above for users with a USB modem.
If you have AT&T High Speed Internet that uses PPPoA (Point to Point protocol over ATM) you will need one of the two following solutions:
- You will need a residential gateway, like the 2Wire 1000 or 1500 that supports PPPoA and connects the Xbox to the gateway directly or via a hub.
- If you have a PPPoA modem with no extra Ethernet Jacks, you will need to install a network card in the PC (if you do not already have one). You will then need to set up Microsoft ICS (Internet connection sharing) and proceed as described above for users with USB modems.
