Speech Recognition Technology: AT&T WatsonSM

Overview

For many of us, the most natural way to communicate is with our voice. Recently, we've seen the emergence of more technologies that allow you to speak commands and ask questions when interacting with your device. And now AT&T is giving developers the tools to build apps and services that let you use your voice to communicate with your smartphone, television and other digital devices.

AT&T WatsonSM speech recognition technology has been powering advanced speech services in the marketplace for decades. It is the speech-enabling technology that is making possible the development of next-generation technologies that go beyond speech to power more advanced natural language processing, advanced search technologies for mobile devices and much more. The research and development of this speech technology has led to more than 600 U.S. patents and patent applications.

The Future

In June, we are launching several AT&T WatsonSM Speech application programming interfaces (APIs) for developers to incorporate the speech engine's capabilities into their own products with minimum hassle, allowing them to quickly create great new apps and services with voice recognition and transcription capabilities. The first AT&T WatsonSM Speech APIs will be focused on web search, local business search, question and answer, voice mail to text, SMS, U-verse® electronic programming guide, and a dictation API for general use of speech recognition.
