AT&T* today announced the expansion of its mobile broadband network in Murray and parts of Calloway County, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content to customers in the area.

The activation of mobile broadband technology on eight cell sites will enhance wireless coverage for residents and businesses in Murray and parts of Calloway County. The network has also been enhanced to the entire Murray State University campus.

“These types of investments will make an immediate impact for businesses, consumers and of course students at Murray State University,” said Mayor Bill Wells.  “As we work to continue to invest, Murray will be able to grow even faster with the benefit of better and faster connectivity and coverage. With the number of mobile business and educational applications on the increase, it is good to see this faster network coming to Murray.”

AT&T is an industry leader in delivering the benefits of mobile broadband networks, devices and applications. With the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities for an amazing wireless voice and data experience.

“Demand for wireless bandwidth is growing rapidly, and we want to meet that demand for our customers,” said Mary Pat Regan, president, AT&T Kentucky. “We’re excited to bring mobile broadband to Murray. Our recently announced agreement to acquire T-Mobile USA also represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand our network. In fact, this deal, if approved, means that we’ll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to 95 percent.”

"Bringing enhanced wireless coverage to Murray will not only help area businesses who need to stay connected with their customers around the world, it will also enable our students to utilize their mobile devices for a growing number of academic and personal applications,” said Dr. James Gantt, director of the Center for Telecommunications Systems Management at Murray State University.

AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world.
