As hundreds of thousands of fans and the world’s best golfers flock to the 2011 AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa., AT&T* will honor members of the military by providing prepaid calling cards to men and women serving abroad. In addition, as title sponsor of this tournament for a fifth consecutive year, AT&T has planned a variety of activities for guests to enjoy while helping to raise funds for local nonprofit organizations.
During the 2011 AT&T National – which runs Tuesday, June 28, through Sunday, July 3 – AT&T will contribute 10,000 prepaid calling cards to help keep military personnel connected to loved ones at home. The AT&T National will once again have the Military Care Package Tent, located at the main entrance, where golfers and fans will help assemble care packages that will be shipped to military serving our country around the world and sign messages of thanks on the We Salute our Heroes tribute wall. At the conclusion of the tournament, sections of the tribute wall will be delivered and displayed in military locations in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
The 2011 AT&T National will also raise funds and awareness for two Philadelphia-area charities – The Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia and The Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, as well as the Tiger Woods Foundation in Washington, D.C.
"We’re proud to be back at Aronimink Golf Club for the second straight year – it has a rich history of hosting premier golf tournaments and we’re pleased to incorporate our focus of philanthropy,” said Jason Simpson, AVP, AT&T Corporate Sponsorships. “To date, this event has raised nearly $10 million for youth-based organizations. We’re excited to continue our support of these organizations and honor the men and women of our Armed Forces this weekend and throughout the year.”
On-site, spectators can relax in the air-conditioned AT&T Digital Clubhouse without missing a stroke of the tournament. Watch the action on the 9th fairway from the patio or keep up with the leaderboard on the latest and greatest AT&T devices, including netbooks and 4G smartphones. There, and multiple other areas on-site, AT&T customers with qualifying plans can log on to AT&T Wi-Fi from their Wi-Fi enabled smartphones and devices for fast, reliable access to e-mail and tournament stats, upload photos and more. Non-AT&T customers can access Wi-Fi for a small fee.
The AT&T National is also participating in the PGA TOUR’s mobile device testing, allowing fans to carry mobile devices and use them in select areas on the golf course, including two AT&T Calling Zones. Charge your phone, make calls or check out the latest AT&T devices at these locations.
