AT&T Adds More Capacity to its South Florida Wireless Network to Support Mobile Broadband Growth

South Florida customers are expected to experience improved mobile broadband coverage and voice performance as a result of continued investment and innovation by AT&T*. The company announced today it recently added more capacity to approximately 40 cell sites in its ongoing efforts to enhance the wireless capacity and performance of its local mobile broadband network.
The network upgrade involved adding additional layers of frequency, also known as “carriers,” to cell sites in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. The additional capacity makes it possible for the sites to accommodate more traffic, which helps improve the performance of mobile broadband data and voice connectivity.
The areas benefitting from the additional mobile broadband capacity include Key Colony, Long Key, Islamorada, and Marathon in Monroe County; N.W. South River Drive, W. Flagler, N.W. 13th Avenue, N.W. 7th Street, N.W. 21st Terrace, N.E. 6th Avenue, Opalocka, Doral Boulevard., N.W. 122nd Avenue, N.W. 104th Avenue, N.W. 110th Avenue, S.W. 97th Avenue, N.W. 87th Avenue, S.W. 8th Street, N.W. 34th Street, Douglas Road, N.W. 32nd Avenue, N.E. 135th Street, N.E. 10th Avenue, Collins Avenue, and Alton Road in Miami-Dade; W. Okeechobee Road, N.W. 138th Street, N.W. 136th Street, N.W. 112th Avenue, East Sunrise Boulevard., East Las Olas Boulevard, N. Flagler Drive, S. Andrews Avenue, and N.W. 9th Avenue in Broward County; and Okeechobee Boulevard, N. Jog Road, Royal Palm Beach Boulevard, Southern Boulevard, 45th Street, Premier Park Drive, Randolph Siding Road, Rocky Pines Road, West Indiantown Road, Australian Avenue, and Silver Beach Road in Palm Beach County.
The local improvements are part of AT&T’s plan to invest in the $20 billion range in its wireless and wireline networks in 2011. This investment includes the initiative to deliver the nation’s most advanced mobile broadband experience and make the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network even faster.

If approved, this deal means that we’ll be able to expand the next generation of mobile broadband – 4G LTE – from our current plan of 80 percent of the U.S. population to more than 97 percent.”
