Encore and AT&T Messages

Multi-Screen Access to Your Conversations

Overview

For many people, interacting with friends and co-workers takes place across multiple channels: voice, email, IM, text messaging and more. With large volumes of messages flowing to and from many people, it can be challenging to keep track of conversations. Add multiple mobile devices, computers and accounts to the equation, and messaging can become complex.

About Encore and AT&T Messages

To help customers unify and simplify messaging and communications — the new Encore platform from AT&T will enable developers to create new ways for people to organize and access communications across mobile devices and desktop computers. Encore helps developers tap into the power of the AT&T cloud to bring new communications tools to AT&T customers.

And taking advantage of the Encore platform is the new Android operating system application AT&T Messages, currently in beta, that will give customers the ability to streamline texts, call history, voicemail, voice-to-text messages, and picture messages. Messages appear in an easy-to-follow conversation format, by person. Customers can access one unified inbox stored in the AT&T cloud and view messages on a smartphone, tablet or from the web. And because this data is stored in the AT&T cloud, all messages are synced up and securely backed up. AT&T Messages also features the ability to transcribe voicemails and voice texts so you can choose whether to read or listen to them.

About Encore and the AT&T Foundry

AT&T developers collaborated with third-party developers at the AT&T Foundry to develop apps and services for the Encore platform. Through this collaboration, developers can bring innovative communications apps to customers quicker than ever before.

AT&T took a progressive developer-centric approach by engaging with developers early on in the Encore development process at Developer Bootcamps held at the AT&T Foundry. The bootcamps familiarized developers with Encore APIs, and gave them a voice on what kind of APIs would be most useful to other developers. Developers will now be able to write software and apps on the Encore platform faster than ever — bringing next-generation apps to customers.

The Future

AT&T Messages is currently in beta but will soon be available as a free download (though data usage charges apply) through the Android Market, and available soon for iOS devices. AT&T Messages is just the beginning of what's possible on the Encore platform. AT&T is working with app developers to provide full access to Encore platform APIs, creating limitless potential for future uses of the technology.
