AT&T's Developer Monetization Project

Helping Developers Build Better Mobile Apps, Faster

Overview

For app developers, it's not always easy to create apps on popular platforms. They often need to negotiate half a dozen different technology and business arrangement to get access to the right APIs to deliver the proper experience to customers. Cobbling things like this together takes time and development resources. And even when developers do go through all the necessary steps, they still have to manage back-office systems like tracking payments, customer usage, and even customer service.

About the Developer Monetization Project

AT&T's Developer Monetization project encourages innovation by making the process of creating apps easier by offering options to build and monetize applications in one easy to access place. The easier AT&T can make it for developers to access streamlined tools, the easier it is for them to get cool new apps into the hands of consumers. Through the project, select app developers have been able to take advantage of access to unique network APIs like messaging, advertising, payments and location technology that can be used to write new apps that customers want and need. Developers also have access to HTML5 software development kit that includes code samples and directions to make using the APIs over the web straightforward and simple.

AT&T's Developer Monetization Project and AT&T Foundry

Working with third party collaborators including Apigee, Sencha, and [a•mo•bee] at the AT&T Foundry, AT&T learned that developers were asking for a single API platform that was easy to access. In the proof of concept and beta platform built within the AT&T Foundry, developers can go to just one place to get the APIs they need. With a few simple clicks, they can incorporate messaging, location, monetization, and other network services directly into their app — quickly and easily. Even better, app developers can subscribe and begin using the APIs within minutes, compared to the usually long registration process involving a lengthy approval process.

The Future

The AT&T Foundry™ prides itself on working closely with developers to accelerate innovation and bring new products and services to market faster than ever. Projects like the Developer Monetization project accomplish this by making sure developers have the tools they need to create great customer experiences. That means the next innovative must-have app will be in customers' hands faster than ever before.
