Mobilizing Medical Images to Help Speed Patient Diagnoses

AT&T Teams with Calgary Scientific to Offer FDA-Cleared Mobile Diagnostic Viewer of Medical Images

Dallas, Texas, November 22, 2011

When there is a medical emergency, the last thing patients need is for their doctor to be on call and unable to access and view their medical images. In the near future, healthcare providers will be able to access and view medical images stored remotely — from a CT to an MRI — and diagnose patients in near real-time from virtually anywhere via their compatible mobile devices.

AT&T* is teaming with Calgary Scientific Inc. to offer ResolutionMD™ as an addition to the AT&T Medical Imaging and Information Management solution. When this enhancement is made available, physicians will be able to quickly access, view and interact with patient images and reports stored within any healthcare facility, utilizing AT&T Medical Imaging and Information Management and render a clinical diagnosis from virtually anywhere. ResolutionMD, a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared mobile diagnostic viewer, is a highly-secure, cloud-based application that extends medical image diagnosis from the confines of a desktop to a provider’s tablet or smartphone. AT&T plans to make ResolutionMD available to its AT&T Medical Imaging and Information Management customers in the first half of 2012.

“We’re using the power of our network-based cloud to improve patient care – bringing patients’ medical images rapidly to clinicians’ smartphones or tablets so they can make a timely diagnosis,” said Randall Porter, assistant vice president, AT&T ForHealth.

“Demand for access to current and prior patient images along with radiology reports is growing at a very high rate,” says Randy Rountree, executive vice president of Global Sales & Marketing for Calgary Scientific, Inc. “This requirement for image information is seen across the healthcare enterprise, in remote locations and must be available to clinicians 24 hours a day. Our work with AT&T ensures that this vital information is always accessible in a highly-secure manner and includes many of the diagnostic analysis tools needed by physicians to assess and rapidly diagnose a patient’s condition."

Key Facts

  • Calgary Scientific Inc. has received clearance from the FDA to market its industry-leading medical imaging application, ResolutionMD Mobile, as a mobile diagnostic application, in the U.S. A web-based version of the application, ResolutionMD Web has previously received this distinctive clearance and is included in this solution.
  • AT&T plans to make ResolutionMD available as an option to AT&T Medical Imaging and Information Management — a vendor-neutral, cloud-based service that provides access, viewing, storage and sharing of medical images from disparate picture archive communications systems (PACS) on an as needed, pay-as-you-go model for image storage.
  • AT&T and Calgary Scientific Inc. are teaming to help providers store, access, view and share patient medical images and information inside hospital systems and outside with referring physicians and other authorized facilities over a highly-secure infrastructure.

Healthcare providers can see a demonstration of the solution at booth #1015 at RSNA 2011 in Chicago from Nov. 27- Dec. 3, 2011.
