Today’s definition of connected is vastly different from what it meant just a decade ago. So how are we going to live connected lives in the next 10 years? Here’s a glimpse: you’ll frequently talk to your car and television, your devices will know your preferences and everything will be customized and connected. AT&T’s vision for making this a reality is through a concept called Mobile Cloud OS. It will power your connected lifestyle by creating intelligent cloud services through the power of AT&T’s network. These capabilities will be interconnected and unified, empowering users with speech, SMS, location, map, video processing, photo downloads and more.
For enterprises, Mobile Cloud OS is easy to provision, easy to dial up and turn down capabilities on-demand and easy to manage alongside their enterprise network. For consumers, it simply means getting a range of rich data services and applications that are accessible and secure — on any device. We’re working to deliver this by building tools and capabilities into the cloud with Mobile Cloud OS.
Creating an application, for example, requires a mix of many different capabilities and services offered through AT&T’s intelligent cloud. Realizing the need for a unified provider of these services, Assistant Vice President of Technical Research at AT&T Labs, Mazin Gilbert worked to marry AT&T’s intelligent network and connectivity to these services.
“Devices connected to the AT&T network get experiences and capabilities that are radically different from any other network — Mobile Cloud OS brings a whole new set of capabilities to the intelligence in the cloud,” said Gilbert. Mazin has a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and an MBA for Executive degree from the Wharton Business School. He has over 100 publications in the area of speech and language processing and holds 72 US patents.
Cloud technology has transformed the mobile industry. At AT&T we’re opening our network to bring you connected cloud capabilities, such as SMS and video processing. Future possibilities for Mobile Cloud OS include:
- Unified services. Putting the intelligence in the cloud allows AT&T to offer many capabilities in one unified service.
- A more open network. Mobile Cloud OS opens the network and allows others to innovate on it, using a variety of tools.
- A connected life. By aiming to fundamentally change the way our customers interact with AT&T and by providing them with holistic cloud-based IP services that are connected and personalized across all environments, AT&T Labs researchers want to connect you at home, in the car, at work and on-the-go.
