AT&T Wireless Network Ranked No. 1 in Providence

Independent research firm RootMetrics awards top spot to AT&T in recent wireless network performance test

Providence, Rhode Island, February 15, 2013

AT&T* wireless customers in Providence, R.I., are benefitting from a network ranked highest in the city by an independent research firm.

RootMetrics®, an independent research and testing organization based in Seattle, recently released a wireless network performance study for Providence, naming AT&T the RootMetrics RootScore® Award winner for its combination of call quality and mobile Internet speed.

The RootMetrics award is the result of nearly 24,000 wireless test calls, texts and mobile Internet transmissions conducted during October 2012.

“AT&T ranked highest in Providence for overall network performance, according to our research conducted in October 2012. We tested call, data and text performance across the Providence area, including over AT&T’s 4G LTE network. As a result, AT&T won the RootScore Award for combined performance in the area,” said Bill Moore, RootMetrics CEO.

AT&T launched 4G LTE** in Providence in December 2012, and it plans to expand its 4G LTE network to cover 300 million people by year-end 2014. Even as we execute these plans, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas with our 4G HSPA+ technology, unlike competitors, where smartphone customers fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.

“Our customers have told us they’ve been amazed by the speeds and quality of our 4G LTE network, and the latest RootMetrics test backs that up,” said AT&T New England President Patricia Jacobs.

“There are more reasons than ever to choose AT&T. We invested more than $40 million in our Rhode Island wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011, and we’ll continue investing in order to give our customers the best possible experience.”
