AT&T Wireless Network Ranked No. 1 in Austin

Independent research firm RootMetrics awards top spot to AT&T in recent wireless network performance test

Austin, Texas, February 15, 2013

AT&T* wireless customers in Austin are benefitting from a network ranked highest in the city by an independent research firm.

RootMetrics®, an independent research and testing organization based in Seattle, has released a wireless network performance study for Austin, naming AT&T the RootMetrics RootScore® Award winner for its combination of call quality and mobile Internet speed.

The RootMetrics award is the result of nearly 25,546 wireless test calls, texts and mobile Internet transmissions conducted during December, 2012.

“AT&T ranked highest in Austin for overall network performance, according to our research conducted in December, 2012. We tested call, data and text performance across the Austin area, including over AT&T’s 4G LTE network. As a result, AT&T won the RootScore Award for combined performance in the area,” said Bill Moore, RootMetrics CEO.

AT&T launched 4G LTE** in Austin in January, 2012, and it plans to expand its 4G LTE network to cover 300 million people by year-end 2014. Even as we execute these plans, customers can get 4G speeds outside of 4G LTE areas with our 4G HSPA+ technology, unlike competitors, where smartphone customers fall back to slower 3G technologies when outside of LTE coverage.
