Rovi Corporation Enters into Agreement with AT&T to License MPEG-4 Video Compression Technology

Atlanta, Georgia, October 14, 2013

AT&T* today announced an agreement that includes Rovi Corporation as the newest member of AT&T’s global MPEG-4 video licensing program. Specializing in digital entertainment, Rovi Corporation is a leading provider of innovative technology solutions for businesses.

Through the licensing agreement, Rovi Corporation will continue incorporating MPEG-4 video compression software into its technology offerings for its customers and consumer end-users.

MPEG-4 video compression serves as the industry standard for the delivery of video streaming to handsets, tablets and smart TVs, among other products with video capabilities. AT&T Labs-Research served as a key contributor and patent holder for the development of MPEG-4 video standards developed in part by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), which provides efficient compression for transmission and storage of video content.

"AT&T is committed to making available to a broader community significant innovations via our intellectual property licensing program," said Scott Frank, President & CEO, AT&T Intellectual Property. "This agreement with Rovi Corporation, whose industry leading digital media products encode and decode MPEG-4, will provide end-users with the advantages of MPEG-4 standards as well as coverage for its prior software product suite for the creation of digital media projects.”
