SBC Communications Announces New $29.99 Offer for Broadband Service with Speeds of up to 3 Mbps

Promotion Ups the Ante in the Broadband Wars

SBC DSL Subscribers Continue to Receive Free Access at More Than 6,000 SBC Wi-Fi Hot Spots Nationwide

San Antonio, Texas, January 27, 2005

SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC) today announced the lowest price ever for the fastest SBC Yahoo! DSL service available to consumers.

SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro service, which provides download speeds of up to 3 megabits per second (Mbps), is now available for only $29.99 a month when customers agree to a one-year term agreement and bundle DSL with the popular SBC unlimited local and long distance calling plan, All Distance (other charges may apply). Previously, the lowest price for the 3 Mbps service was $36.99 when ordered online or as part of a Total Connections bundle with a one-year term agreement.

The new SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro pricing, available through March 31, 2005, gives consumers further incentive to make the leap to broadband—and to switch from cable modem services which typically cost about $40-50 a month for similar speeds.

The new offer brings together several popular SBC services in a single package, giving residential customers unsurpassed value and convenience. The All Distance bundle delivers unlimited local and nationwide direct-dial long distance calling, Caller ID, voicemail and the choice of two SBC calling features for just $48.95 a month. Additionally, customers will receive either a free DSL modem or a wireless home-networking gateway for only $50 after a $99 instant credit.

The new promotion comes on the heels of a similar offer announced in November for SBC Yahoo! DSL Express. The service, which offers download speeds of up to 1.5 Mbps, is now available now through March 31 for only $19.95 a month with a one-year agreement and when purchased with All Distance.

SBC Companies also announced the extension of free access at all SBC FreedomLink Wi-Fi hot spots for SBC DSL customers from April 15 through May 31, 2005. After that, the service will be available for only $1.99 a month for SBC DSL subscribers. With SBC Wi-Fi service, SBC DSL subscribers can enjoy high-speed wireless connectivity at more than 6,000 hot spots nationwide including select McDonald's, Barnes & Noble bookstores, The UPS Store®, Mail Boxes Etc.®, Avis rental car locations, hotels, airports, coffee shops, convention centers, state parks and restaurants. FreedomLink memberships are also available to non-SBC DSL subscribers for $19.95 a month or a 24-hour rate of only $7.95.

"We're urging consumers to do the math," said Scott Helbing, senior vice president, SBC Consumer Marketing. "We believe there's no better value in the market for Internet users who crave greater online speeds and want to stay connected with friends and family."

SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro offers lightning-fast download speeds of 1.5 Mbps to 3.0 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 384 kilobits per second (Kbps), virtually unlimited e-mail account storage, industry-leading safety and security features and an award-winning parental controls package. SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro is designed for simultaneous use of bandwidth-intensive applications such as audio and video streaming, gaming on demand, photo sharing and uploading and downloading large files.
