Crossroads Tech Park Chooses SBC Companies to Equip New Center with Latest in Advanced Technology and Communications Services
SBC Synchronous Optical Network, Voice Offerings, and Fiber-Based Data Services Essential for Attracting High-Tech Business Tenants
Boardman, Ohio, February 2, 2005
Crossroads Tech Park and SBC Communications Inc. (NYSE: SBC) today announced a preferred provider agreement, in which SBC companies will offer high-speed data and communications services to the new Crossroads Tech Park facilities. As part of the Business SmartMoves® program from SBC companies, the agreement calls for the provision of communications services to 210,000 square feet of commercial space. SBC companies will also provide a Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) ring for heavy-load, high-speed, uninterrupted data flow.
The alliance is part of a growing national trend of real estate developers that are making state-of-the-art communications services available to properties to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. By offering the advanced technology, enhanced service, and added convenience provided by the SmartMoves program, Crossroads Tech Park hopes to attract to the area businesses dependent on communications technology, such as call centers, insurance claim processing centers, bank co-location centers, and application service providers.
The Business SmartMoves program is a joint marketing initiative from SBC companies that enables real estate developers, builders, property managers and owners of multi-tenant commercial properties to deliver world-class communications technology and priority service to tenants, while still allowing for competitive choice. The Business SmartMoves preferred provider agreement delivers advanced technology, cost-effective service bundles, and an enhanced level of service to help make properties more attractive to current and prospective tenants who are seeking quality, reliability, and tremendous data capacity.
Crossroads Tech Park is a 25-acre facility configured for high-speed voice and data communications services to meet the needs of companies demanding reliable access to communications. At completion, the center will feature buildings on lots ranging from one to seven acres surrounded by a SONET ring that will deliver high-speed communications capability over fiber-optic lines to each building.
SBC companies will provide a redundant, fiber-optic SONET ring as the basis for the center's communications infrastructure. A SONET ring enables high-speed data transfer and direct access to the Internet backbone, avoiding expensive "last-mile" charges. SONET allows businesses to consolidate Ethernet, data, video, and voice traffic and cost-effectively transport large amounts of data between locations on a fail-safe, self-healing platform.
Fiber is a mainstay in the data transport requirements of both large and small businesses and is critical to their competitiveness, as it supports the high-bandwidth applications companies depend on. Increasingly, access to reliable fiber optic cable is a key factor in choosing a business location.
Crossroads tenants can sign up for local and long distance phone and data services from SBC companies, including videoconferencing, Internet access, Local Area Network (LAN) connectivity and high-speed data transfer. As part of the Business SmartMoves program, Crossroads tenants are provided with a single phone number to begin ordering all services. This simplifies the ordering process and enables faster provisioning of services to improve customers' leasing experience.
"By working with SBC companies and the SmartMoves program, we can provide our tenants with the technological advantage they need to conduct their business today and in the future," said Richard Laskey, Crossroads Tech Park spokesperson. "With the latest services and SONET ring, Crossroads Tech Park will attract companies looking for reliable, state-of-the-art technology."
"Businesses today demand reliable access to communications and high-speed, high-bandwidth data services," said Maureen Weyel, SmartMoves executive director, SBC companies. "The Business SmartMoves program will help Crossroads Tech Park continue to attract new tenants, just as developers in other areas of the country have benefited from marketing these services."
With nearly a decade of experience working in the commercial real estate industry and tens of millions of square feet under contract, the Business SmartMoves program from the SBC family of companies is strongly positioned to help real estate companies and their tenants make the most of their technology investments.
