New Name, Logo Unveiled for the Home of the Red Raiders

It's official. The home of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football team is now Jones AT&T Stadium. Representatives from Texas Tech University and AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today unveiled the new stadium name and logo during a brief ceremony at the facility. The new name results from SBC Communications Inc.'s 2005 acquisition of AT&T Corp. and its decision to retain the AT&T name.
While the name will change immediately, replacing signage inside and outside Jones AT&T Stadium will continue through mid-August, with all new signage scheduled to be installed in time for the Red Raiders Sept. 2 home opener against Southern Methodist University.
"It's difficult to overstate the contributions that Ed Whitacre, John Montford and AT&T have made to Texas Tech and to the Lubbock community," said Dr. Jon Whitmore, president, Texas Tech University. "Thanks to AT&T, we are stronger academically and more competitive in Big 12 athletics. We believe that having the AT&T name on this facility will only enhance our reputation in the Big 12 Conference and across the country."

"We appreciate our strong working relationship with Texas Tech, and we are grateful for the university's leadership to make the Jones AT&T Stadium name a reality."
In 2000, Texas Tech added the SBC name to its 1947 football stadium in recognition of a $20 million lead gift from then-SBC Communications Inc. to enable stage one work on the $84 million stadium renovation program. The renovation plan includes a state-of-the-art press box, luxury suites, club seating, new concourses, new concession areas, new restrooms and incorporation of the Spanish Renaissance architecture consistent with other campus buildings. The original Jones Stadium name honored former Texas Tech President Clifford Jones and his wife Audrey.
In addition to the $20 million stadium renovation gift, the SBC Foundation (now AT&T Foundation) donated $10 million in 1999 to Texas Tech for scholarships and endowed chairs.
