AT&T and National Arbor Day Foundation Receive Silver Cause Marketing Halo Award (TM) for Campaign to Promote Online Billing, Tree Planting

New York City, New York, June 15, 2006

AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) and the National Arbor Day Foundation announced that they have received a Silver Cause Marketing Halo Award in recognition of AT&T's successful campaign to encourage residential and small-business customers to sign up for AT&T eBill service and promote tree planting.

The AT&T's eBill Paperless Program received the Silver Cause Marketing Halo Award for Best Environmental/Wildlife Program at the fourth annual Cause Marketing Forum conference held this week in New York City.

More than 520,000 residential and small business customers responded to AT&T's pledge last year by donating $1 to the National Arbor Day Foundation to plant trees for each customer who switched to paperless billing during the 2005 — 2006 campaign. During the campaign, AT&T eBill subscribers were eligible for several program sweepstakes prizes, including a hybrid car, $100 gift cards and all-inclusive trips for four people to six U.S. destinations. From July 2005 through March 2006, monthly enrollments in AT&T's eBill service increased 54 percent.

The AT&T eBill Web site,, also allowed customers to "plant" a tree in a growing online forest in celebration of their eBill activation. Customers were also able to send e-mail messages to their friends and family members, encouraging them to do the same. Annually, more than 36,000 trees are saved through the use of AT&T online billing.

"The Cause Marketing Halo Awards demonstrate the good that can be done when businesses and nonprofits team up," said David Hessekiel, president of Cause Marketing Forum, Inc., the program's organizer. "It's a competition in which we all win."

"This campaign to recruit AT&T eBill customers was a runaway success — a benefit for the environment and a benefit for our customers who now are enjoying the control and flexibility in managing their accounts online that our eBill service provides," said Bob Sloan, vice president of AT&T eSales and Service. "We're honored to receive a Silver Cause Marketing Halo Award for this campaign, which helps us celebrate the positive results that can come from creative and strategic cause marketing."

"We are absolutely thrilled with the response from AT&T customers," said John Rosenow, president of The National Arbor Day Foundation. "The trees planted through this campaign will provide countless benefits to us all for decades to come. A special thank-you to AT&T for their commitment to environmental stewardship!"
