AT&T Secures New Contract with El Dorado Union High School District
Placerville, California, September 15, 2006
AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced a new optical services contract with El Dorado Union High School District (UHSD), a California school district with six high school campuses and administrative offices serving the El Dorado County area.
Under the terms of the five-year contract, AT&T will install its OPT-E-MAN® switched Ethernet service at El Dorado UHSD locations, increasing the district's bandwidth and giving the district greater scalability. The wide area network (WAN) also allows for communications between the schools and the district office through pure Ethernet connectivity. The solution will deliver increased reliability via the converged network infrastructure, which helps to ensure protection from network outages during inclement weather.
In addition, the optical network will enable centralized control of the WAN from the district office for increased security and network redundancy, enabling data transfer and the retrieval of student records. Ultimately, the solution will help the district deploy advanced bandwidth intensive applications, such as video streaming for distance learning and administration and Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for clear, crisp phone calls without the interruption of data transfers. It will also allow the district to discontinue older and costly analog voice services.
"As our district continues to grow, so does our need for a centralized, reliable network that can support advanced bandwidth-intensive learning applications and technologies," said Stephen Luhrs, assistant superintendent of business services, El Dorado Unified High School District. "The OPT-E-MAN solution provided by AT&T will reliably meet our current needs, and it provides a flexible platform to extend our bandwidth in the future."
