AT&T Retains OfficeMax Network Integration Contract

San Antonio, Texas, November 22, 2006

Auckland, New Zealand — AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced that AT&T Global Network Services International's New Zealand office has recently retained its contract to provide network-integration services to leading New Zealand office supplies company, OfficeMax.

Driven by the recent massive growth in e-commerce, the new contract centres on the security solution behind the OfficeMax Web site, OrderPoint (www.officemax.co.nz). OrderPoint represents more than 35 percent of OfficeMax's sales revenue.

Roger Payne, AT&T New Zealand general manager, said that the new three-year contract was the result of his team's building a strong relationship with OfficeMax over the past eight years.

"Our ongoing relationship with OfficeMax, culminating in this latest contract, is a tribute to the hard work of a dedicated team of people over a number of years.

AT&T will provide four Checkpoint clustered firewalls, a top-end security product, which will be available in New Zealand through AT&T. The firewalls are controlled by using Checkpoint's Cluster-XL high-availability feature set. Behind the Checkpoint firewalls are two clustered F5 Networks BIG-IP SSL acceleration appliances to complete the security infrastructure.

The fully outsourced clustered firewalls and F5 Networks appliances provide no single point of failure in the OfficeMax network and include a disaster-recovery site in Christchurch.

OfficeMax Chief Information Officer Peter Gardner says that the AT&T solution will offer increased security and faster service to OfficeMax's customers.

"OrderPoint customers will experience increased efficiency from F5's load-balancing of a farm of Web servers and dynamic acceleration, which provides better response times.

"With the OrderPoint Web site representing such a large proportion of our revenue, it is absolutely crucial that our network-integration solution be first-class."

Mr. Payne says that network integration, or NI as it is known, is a mature business for AT&T in the U.S. It is also being extended globally to business customers in Canada, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Japan.
