AT&T Announces a Hosted, Fully Integrated Application Acceleration Service
AT&T is the First Managed Services Provider to Integrate its Network and Hosting Services Into a One-Stop Solution for Web Application Performance
San Antonio, Texas, June 5, 2007
AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced AT&T Application Acceleration, a fully managed offer integrated into its global Internet Protocol (IP) network and Internet Data Centers that speeds the performance and responsiveness of Web-based applications. The service dramatically improves the end-user experience for these applications, allowing businesses to interact more effectively with their online customers and improve the productivity of employees and suppliers.
Available today to AT&T Enterprise Hosting customers, AT&T Application Acceleration combines global IP networking technology with AT&T managed services and tools to provide a one-stop solution that overcomes slow or unacceptable response times from today's complex Web-based applications. Not only does the service make Web applications work faster, but it also allows businesses to get more efficient use from their available Web server, Internet access, or Virtual Private Network (VPN) resources.
Unlike other acceleration solutions, AT&T Application Acceleration is based on open standards. This allows it to operate transparently to users without requiring custom Web application coding, special Web browser versions or settings, proprietary networks, or equipment located at end-user sites. Moreover, the service manages requests for dynamic Web content where the content resides — in an AT&T Internet Data Center (IDC) — by positioning Web traffic manager equipment in conjunction with Web servers and the rest of a customer's hosted Web application infrastructure. As a result, AT&T Application Acceleration balances service requests more effectively, reduces slow response times and increases application throughput for all users, both on the Internet and on corporate intranets.
AT&T offers an array of flexible and comprehensive Web hosting services through its network of global IDCs with plans to expand its complement of centers to 38 by the end of 2007. As part of the fabric of the AT&T network, these IDCs provide a robust onramp to the network for the hosted application acceleration service, as well as options for connecting via alternative Internet Service Providers (ISP) for additional flexibility or backup.
"As companies today increasingly rely on Web-based applications to power both customer-facing and back-office business processes, the performance and user experience of these applications have become critical to business success," said Steve Caniano, vice president, AT&T Hosting Services. "Solutions to accelerate application delivery exist in the marketplace, but many IT shops lack the experience with these technologies to get the best use out of them. AT&T addresses these problems by being the first managed hosting provider to integrate a fully managed application acceleration solution with its global IP network and complement of worldwide Internet Data Centers."
AT&T Application Acceleration helps businesses provide better customer service and complete more e-commerce transactions since most buyers typically will abandon a business's Web site due to slow response times. The service also can enhance interactions with business partners, channels and suppliers — especially those in geographically dispersed or overseas locations — as well as improve employee productivity by speeding workflow and reducing manual workarounds. And as a fully hosted solution, AT&T Application Acceleration requires no upfront capital costs, special staffing, training or equipment tooling.
"With more enterprise applications moving to the Web, end users are experiencing bottlenecks because client and server applications don't often transition easily to a Web-based environment," said Lydia Leong, Research Director, with Gartner. "In most cases, optimizing an enterprise with application acceleration technology requires a level of expertise that some businesses don't possess, so they are increasingly looking to service providers to help them manage their network infrastructure to get the enhanced application, server and Wide Area Network performance."
AT&T Application Acceleration also includes options for application-specific monitoring, and can provide security capabilities, such as encryption and filtering, that complement other AT&T security services. AT&T helps customers get started quickly and keep their solution operating by providing a team of highly trained subject matter experts who are available for solution design and implementation, as well as round-the-clock operations and change management. Additionally, AT&T can provide proactive monitoring and management of the hosted solution and the opportunity for customers to view all their managed devices through the AT&T BusinessDirect® customer portal. BusinessDirect makes it easy for customers to get information and reports on their environment, as well as make changes quickly.
The AT&T Application Acceleration service is available to both new and existing managed hosting and colocation customers in the AT&T IDCs. Pricing for AT&T Application Acceleration varies based on the configuration of the Web traffic manager equipment, the managed services provided by AT&T, and contract term.
