U.S. Army Awards AT&T Government Solutions $9.8 Million Networking Contract
AT&T to Provide Broadband Data Network Upgrade for Fort Bliss
Vienna, Virginia, August 14, 2007
AT&T Government Solutions, a business unit within AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T), has been awarded a contract worth up to $9.8 million to develop a customer premise data network at Fort Bliss, Texas, for the U.S. Army.
Under the terms of the contract, AT&T will provide a comprehensive portfolio of services, which include design, engineering, furnishing, installation, securing and testing outside plant cable and data-networking equipment for the Fort Bliss data network. Army personnel will experience broadband connectivity throughout the installation.
With more than 1.1 million acres, Fort Bliss is a premier facility for training, mobilization and deploying combat forces and is the largest U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) maneuver area in the country. Fort Bliss is the home to the Air Defense Artillery Center of Excellence, which is responsible for air defense artillery training of U.S. soldiers and various allied nation soldiers. Fort Bliss is also the home of seven Forces Command warfighting units.
"Bases with geographically diverse and vital combat training operations need to constantly enhance their data communications capabilities to provide the troops with the combat training that they need," said Don Herring, senior vice president, AT&T Government Solutions. "Fort Bliss commanders know that their training facilities must be able to quickly share and safeguard data in a secure manner for their operations. AT&T will help Fort Bliss use broadband connectivity to provide its training operations with the benefits of a fast, reliable and security-driven IP solution."
The AT&T customer premise data network provides enhanced broadband capabilities, which will help Fort Bliss provide its training and operations staffs with Internet Protocol (IP) access and enable personnel to enhance their productivity because of a faster broadband connection.
The contract was awarded to AT&T by the U.S. Army Project Manager Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems (PM DCASS) through the Infrastructure Modernization Program (IMOD). PM DCASS provides core data backbone and telecommunications infrastructure upgrades and modernizations to Army installations around the world.
The period of performance is up to four years.
