AT&T Announces $2.5 Million Contribution to Mayo Clinic for Cancer Center Analytics Project

Donation Funds Development of Data Warehouse to Store Patient Information for Quicker Analysis

Rochester, Minnesota, November 12, 2007

The AT&T Foundation — the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) — has announced a three-year $2.5 million contribution to Mayo Clinic to fund the development of its Enterprise Data Trust (EDT), a data warehouse that will collect and store information for its Cancer Center Analytics Project.

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center treats more than 19,500 new cancer patients every year and is one of the largest cancer centers in the country. The EDT will help manage the explosive growth of patient data to enable quicker, more effective analyses. The EDT will also help to match patients with clinical trials and provide for more comprehensive individualized care.

"Our efforts to build the EDT are critical to providing a single logical enterprisewide data warehouse, and we are grateful to AT&T for its support of this initiative," said Franklyn Prendergast, M.D., Ph.D., Director of Mayo Clinic's Center for Individualized Medicine. "With these funds, we can further develop our infrastructure to provide more individualized care to our patients."

Mayo Clinic Cancer Center is a leader in transforming innovative research findings into effective improvements in patient care. The EDT will enable the center to advance that record by producing enterprisewide research reports in a more timely and accurate fashion.

This contribution builds on a $900,000 donation announced earlier this year to benefit Mayo Clinic's Life Sciences System, a system that captures genomic and prescription data to create more individualized patient care. Both initiatives are part of Mayo Clinic's collaboration with IBM to implement a state-of-the-art enterprise data model for the health care industry.

"These projects will have an immense impact on patient care," said Denis Cortese, M.D., CEO of Mayo Clinic. "The EDT is yet another example of how Mayo Clinic is working to create the technologically advanced environment necessary to make personalized medicine a reality. For physicians at Mayo Clinic, our primary focus is delivering the best care to our patients, and the EDT will be a key development to help deliver on that promise."

The AT&T Foundation supports initiatives that use telemedicine/telehealth to reach underserved and hard-to-serve populations, increase access to specialists and provide medical education. The foundation also supports programs that use innovative and/or collaborative approaches to address key community health and human services issues.

"AT&T is proud to support Mayo Clinic in its efforts to maximize its data management in order to advance its record on patient care," said Wauneta Browne, regional vice president of AT&T Legislative and Regulatory Affairs. "We look forward to seeing how this initiative will benefit Mayo's patients and the technological advantages that it will introduce to the health care industry."

Since 1996, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have contributed more than $439 million to nonprofit organizations across the country. With its strong giving record, the AT&T Foundation is among the five largest corporate foundations in the United States and was ranked by Forbes magazine among the most generous corporate foundations in 2006.
