AT&T Supports Walton Arts Center; Builds Stronger Communities Through $9 Million in National Grant Program
AT&T Excelerator Grants Assist Organizations Serving Diverse Ethnic Groups, Low-Income Families, People With Disabilities, Youth and Seniors
Fayetteville, Arkansas, November 30, 2007
The AT&T Foundation — the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) — has announced that it has awarded more than $18,000 to support the Walton Arts Center through the AT&T Excelerator competitive technology grant program. The center will use grant funds to upgrade its technology programs to increase staff efficiency and enhance patron satisfaction.
Since 2002, the AT&T Excelerator program has provided more than 2,500 technology grants — totaling more than $47.8 million — to organizations across the country. In 2007, 12 regional and local nonprofit organizations in Arkansas have benefited from the competitive program, which has granted nearly $9 million to nonprofit organizations and communities nationwide. This year, the AT&T Foundation expanded the Excelerator grant program for the first time to include AT&T Southeast's nine-state service area.
"We are so excited and grateful to AT&T for its support of our technology upgrade initiative," said Anita Scism, president and CEO, Walton Arts Center. "With its support, we will be able to implement a three-phase technology plan that will significantly increase staff efficiency and ultimately improve access to information and customer service for our patrons. We appreciate AT&T's ability to see the need in the nonprofit sector to support those projects in the administrative and operational realms, which are so critical in our ability to achieve our mission of connecting and engaging people through inspiring arts experiences."
"A key objective of my public service is to help develop and expand the community resources that are needed for our region to flourish," said state Sen. Sue Madison. "The Walton Arts Center is a tremendous community resource. I am pleased to see the strong support it continues to receive and the great work it is doing in our community."
The AT&T Excelerator program provides technology access to organizations working to strengthen underserved communities. Helping nonprofits integrate technology into their operations and community outreach, AT&T Excelerator grants also place technology tools in the hands of the underserved populations that the nonprofits work with in order to provide resources such as education programs, Internet access, computer training and job-skills development.
"For the past six years, the AT&T Excelerator program has demonstrated the importance of how technology can benefit communities and organizations," said Cathy Foraker, director, External Affairs of AT&T Arkansas. "Walton Arts Center and other organizations in Arkansas will continue to use technology funded by this program to empower the community and change the lives of the people whom they serve on a day-to-day basis. We commend Senator Madison for her dedication in assisting nonprofit organizations in Fayetteville and for her understanding of the vital role that technology plays in their success."
2007 AT&T Excelerator grants will help nonprofit organizations throughout Arkansas improve their operations and build stronger communities. Arkansas recipients illustrate the innovative ways technology can be employed to meet their missions.
