AT&T Awards More Than $5 Million in College Scholarships to 2,000-Plus Students Nationwide

Donation Supports the Dream of Higher Education for Children of AT&T Employees

San Antonio, Texas, February 1, 2008

The AT&T Foundation — the corporate philanthropy organization of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) — today announced that it has awarded more than $5 million in college scholarships to 2,000-plus children of AT&T employees.

For the 2007 - 2008 school year, 631 students will receive AT&T Foundation scholarships for the first time, and 1,436 students will renew their scholarships. The AT&T Foundation scholarship program has provided more than $50 million in scholarships since its inception in 1993.

"The AT&T Foundation is committed to advancing education, and the scholarship program is a great way to deliver on that commitment," said Laura Sanford, president of the AT&T Foundation. "We believe that success at high school and college is critical to a competitive, successful workforce. With so many promising applicants, we are eager to witness the continued success of these college students, and we congratulate them on a job well done thus far."

AT&T Foundation scholarships are awarded to students pursuing undergraduate study at accredited four-year and two-year colleges and universities, as well as military academies, in the United States. Students who maintain specified academic guidelines can renew their scholarships annually. The competitive scholarship selection process is based on an individual's overall merit, including academic achievement, leadership skills, work experience, awards and honors and participation in school and community activities. Special consideration is also given to students who are in the first generation in their family to attend college.

Students attending two-year colleges will each receive a $1,500 scholarship; those attending four-year colleges or universities will each receive a $2,500 scholarship; and those attending military academies will receive a one-time honorarium of $2,000 from the AT&T Foundation.

Education is the primary funding area of the AT&T Foundation. In 2007, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation provided more than $45.7 million to support education initiatives across the nation. The AT&T Foundation invests in educational programs that are enhanced by technology and that teach the necessary skills in order to succeed in an ever-expanding global economy. Since 1996, the AT&T Foundation has distributed more than $428 million to support academic achievement, new classroom technology, after-school programs, teacher training and many other educational endeavors.

In 2008, the AT&T Foundation will reinforce its longtime commitment to improve education, strengthen communities and enrich lives, with a strong focus on high school success and the support of college and workforce-readiness programs.
