Atlanta, Georgia, February 18, 2009
AT&T* today unveiled its network expansion plans for Georgia in 2009. AT&T will continue rolling out third generation (3G) wireless services across nine new cities and enhance current 3G coverage in Metro Atlanta and four other cities in the state. AT&T's 3G network is the nation's fastest 3G, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms.
In 2009, AT&T plans to introduce new 3G coverage in the cities of Augusta, Brunswick, Hartwell, Hilton Head, Macon, Milledgeville, St. Simons, Statesboro and Valdosta. AT&T will also enhance its 3G network in Metro Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Dalton and Savannah.
"Our mission is to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work, and to do it better than anyone else," said Sylvia Russell, president, AT&T Georgia. "I am so proud of our investment in Georgia and the connection it's making to our customers and communities across this great state."
From 2006 to 2008, AT&T's total capital investment in Georgia was nearly $3.25 billion, and with growing demand for advanced wireless data services like the BlackBerry® Bold™ and the LG Incite™, AT&T plans to add more than 80 cell sites across Georgia in the coming year.
Georgia cities that will benefit from the addition of these new cell sites include:
- Enhanced coverage in the city, near Darton College and near Albany State University
- Expanded coverage along the east side of downtown Athens
- Enhanced coverage in the city and surrounding areas including Fairburn, Union City, Palmetto, Carrollton, Kennesaw, Marietta, Alpharetta and Lawrenceville
- Enhanced coverage in Aiken, SC, Evans, Fort Gordon, Graniteville and North Augusta
- Enhanced coverage in downtown and suburban communities
- New and expanded coverage in Bluffton and Hilton Head Palmetto Dunes, Gunnery and downtown Hilton Head

The 2009 expansion effort builds upon the more than 60 cell sites AT&T added in 2008 in the cities of Columbus and Bainbridge, network expansions in Athens and Atlanta, and 3G network launches in Columbus, Dalton, Gainesville, McDonough, Peachtree City, Rome and Savannah.
In addition to voice services, AT&T's 3G network also delivers LaptopConnect users typical downlink speeds ranging between 700 kilobits per second (Kbps) and 1.7 megabits per second (Mbps), and faster uplink speeds ranging between 500 Kbps and 1.2 Mbps. The super-charged network opens the door to a new era of advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content, such as AT&T Video ShareSM, a first-of-its-kind technology that allows users to share live video during a wireless call.
"We are fully committed to enhancing our wireless network throughout Georgia," said Keith Holmes, vice president and general manager for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets in Georgia. "With our 2009 investment, we will continue to deliver a top notch experience every time our customers make a call, send a text or check an email on their AT&T device."
