While golf fans tee up for the ultimate golf experience at the 2009 Masters Tournament, AT&T is gearing up to provide the ultimate wireless experience. AT&T* announced today the launch of its high speed third generation (3G) wireless broadband network in and around the Augusta National Golf Club in anticipation of increased usage during the 2009 Masters Tournament. AT&T added 3G technology to cell sites around the Masters venue and northern half of Augusta — totaling more than 30 square miles of new 3G wireless coverage. AT&T will then continue the next phase of its 3G network rollout to more cell sites in the Augusta area giving residents in Aiken, SC, Fort Gordon and Graniteville access to the nation's fastest 3G network, according to recent data compiled by leading independent wireless research firms.

AT&T boosted high speed 3G voice capacity by 400 percent and data capacity by 500 percent with a focus on four key areas where a majority of tournament fans and spectators will be. Areas include: south near Wrightsboro Road; east to the Savannah River; north to Evans to Locks Road; and west beyond 1-20 and the 1-520 interchange.

"Our mission is to connect people with their world, everywhere they live, work and vacation, and to do it better than anyone else," said Sylvia Russell, president, AT&T Georgia. "We realize that players and fans alike want to connect with family and friends during the Masters Tournament, whether it's by voice, e-mail, a text message or live video sharing, and our network team has made significant enhancements to our network to make that possible."

AT&T‘s network personnel will monitor the network throughout the tournament and make adjustments as needed to maximize the ability of customers to make calls and use data services, such as texting, multimedia messaging and video.

"Delivering the bestcustomer experience starts with the network, and we want to deliver a top notch experience every time our customers make a call, send a text or check an email on their AT&T device," said Keith Holmes, vice president and general manager for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets in Georgia.

During the 2009 Masters Tournament AT&T wireless customers will be the only fans with access to live and on-demand Masters programming from their wireless devices with MediaFLO, MobiTV and Cellular Video services — including play-by-play action, live coverage of the 15th and 16th holes and player interviews.

"Investment in the Augusta community is critical for the growth and well-being of our local economy and we are thrilled to see AT&T's continued commitment to giving residents access to the latest technology," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver. "With the launch of AT&T's wireless broadband network, visitors to the tournament will have access to the latest and greatest in communications technology."

From 2006 to 2008, AT&T's total capital investment in Georgia was nearly $3.25 billion and with growing demand for advanced wireless data services like the BlackBerry® Bold™ and the LG Incite™, AT&T plans to add more than 80 cell sites across Georgia in the coming year including Augusta.

AT&T's wireless network is built on the GSM standard — the most open and widely used technology in the world. AT&Ts devices work in more than 200 countries and regions.

AT&T's 3G wireless broadband network makes it possible for customers to view videos, play games, download music, surf the Internet, check e-mail and access large files and business applications while on the go. AT&T's 3G network is now available in nearly 350 U.S. major metropolitan areas, including Augusta.
