AT&T U-verse Marks One Year Anniversary in Northeast Wisconsin
Wisconsin Video Competition Act Paved Way for AT&T U-verse Expansion to More than 125,000 Northeast Wisconsin Living Units
Green Bay, Wisconsin, July 27, 2009
Since its launch in Northeast Wisconsin just one year ago, AT&T U-verseSM has been made available to more than 125,000 area living units and numerous communities, bringing more video choice and innovative features to local customers.
Passage of the Wisconsin Video Competition Act in December 2007 made the AT&T U-verse expansion possible, with U-verse TV, High Speed Internet and Voice services now available in many area communities, including Appleton, DePere, Green Bay, Menasha, Neenah and Oshkosh. AT&T* plans to continue expanding within the region.
“We‘re pleased to be able to provide more customers in Wisconsin with real choice in television services,” said Scott T. VanderSanden, president of AT&T Wisconsin. “Thanks in part to the passage of the Wisconsin Video Competition Act, AT&T is bringing new and innovative video products to more Wisconsin consumers.”
AT&T is expanding U-verse services in Wisconsin thanks in part to legislation co-written by Rep. Phil Montgomery, R-Ashwaubenon; and Sen. Jeff Plale, D-Milwaukee; and sponsored by numerous legislators, including Sen. Dave Hansen, D-Green Bay. The Video Competition Act, signed by Gov. Jim Doyle, provides an environment that encourages new video providers, such as AT&T, to invest in Wisconsin to compete against incumbent cable providers.
“The Video Competition Act is helping bring a real alternative to cable TV to families across Wisconsin,” Montgomery said. “In addition to this new competition in the Green Bay and Fox Cities area, cable competitors are receiving new state franchises in other parts of the state and bringing needed choice to residents in those areas.”
“Access to the latest in communications technology is crucial to the economic success of Wisconsin families and businesses,” said Sen. Hansen. “I am pleased to see Green Bay and Fox Cities residents reaping the benefits of greater competition in the video marketplace.”
Since the U-verse launch in Northeast Wisconsin a year ago, AT&T has introduced several enhancements to customers at no extra cost, including:
- The freedom to watch and playback recordings from a single DVR on any connected TV in the house with Total Home DVR . U-verse TV customers also recently received an exclusive new Total Home DVR feature that allows them to schedule and delete recordings from any U-verse receiver in the home.
- Continuous additions to the U-verse TV High Definition (HD) channel lineup, which now offers more than 110 HD channels.
- The ability to check the current weather conditions and forecasts in any U.S. city with Weather On Demand.
- Several seasonal sports applications that enhance sports viewing, including the 2009 Masters, College Basketball from Yahoo! Sports and Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football apps.
- A 20 percent speed increase for AT&T U-verse Internet Max customers from up to 10 Mbps to up to 12 Mbps downstream.
“Over the past year, we have continued to make U-verse TV better for Wisconsin customers,” said Amanda Harris, general manager for AT&T Wisconsin. “We’ve added more applications, new services and more HD channels, making AT&T U-verse a great value. We’re giving Wisconsin customers a reason to break free from cable.”
U-verse TV customers can also enjoy several other TV benefits, the ability to program DVR recordings from your Web-connected mobile phone or PC; personalized, on-screen weather, sports, traffic and stock information via AT&T U-bar; the ability to view personal photos on your TV that you have uploaded to flickr.com; and more.
AT&T’s U-verse deployment is rapidly introducing competitive choice and next-generation services to more consumers. AT&T U-verse customers enjoy quadruple-play integration, enhanced features and greater value, all made possible by IP technology. AT&T U-verse TV ranked “Highest in Residential Television Service Satisfaction in the North Central Region,” according to the J.D. Power and Associates 2008 Residential Television Service Provider Satisfaction StudySM.
