AT&T Enhances VoIP Portfolio for Wholesale Customers

AT&T* today announced several enhancements to its Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) portfolio that will enable wholesale customers to cost-effectively broaden their footprint and extend the reach of their VoIP calling area.
Wholesale customers will benefit from expanded features including a new access option for AT&T Voice over IP Connect Service (AVOICS), a new user-based Web enhancement for AT&T Global Hubbing IP Access (GHIA) and additional options in AT&T’s suite of Business VoIP services.
Backed by the quality, reliability and reach of the AT&T global network, AVOICS is AT&T’s flagship wholesale VoIP platform for U.S. service providers. AVOICS offers IP-based connectivity to AT&T's network and termination of IP voice traffic over the Public Switched Telephone Network. With AVOICS, service providers can offer premium long distance communication service to their customers.
When building out their networks, wholesale customers now have the flexibility to connect to AVOICS through multiple options. They can connect to AVOICS via the AT&T Private Network Transport (PNT) service, which provides class-of-service voice quality, key security elements and advanced network reliability. Clients now have the added capability of connecting through a new access option called Transport Independent Access (TIA), which offers an economic and efficient way to access AVOICS by using either the Public Internet or on the AT&T network using AT&T Managed Internet Service (MIS).
“Our TIA option is opening doors with customers who want flexible interconnection options to supplement their network configurations and maximize their existing investments. For example, a client might utilize PNT for a high volume area and supplement with TIA for multiple IP addresses for other applications or other geographic areas,” said Ed Stulga, assistant vice president, Wholesale Marketing and Portfolio Management, AT&T Business Solutions. “Our carrier-grade VoIP portfolio provides building blocks for our customers, and we will continue to introduce new features to help them increase productivity, reduce costs and differentiate themselves.”

The GHIA platform is designed to provide flexible solutions for both U.S. and global customers with high international call volumes. AT&T is launching the first of a series of user-based Web enhancements for GHIA customers. Rates for international call termination change frequently and customers now receive an email with a file attachment from which they can easily upload the latest rates to their internal systems.
To benefit wholesale customers’ internal business operations, AT&T’s suite of Business VoIP services help enhance employee productivity, reduce operational expenses and gain the efficiencies of a unified network. AT&T IP Toll-Free, AT&T IP Flexible Reach and AT&T Voice DNASM services are now available with a broader range of access options including Ethernet and Multi-Link Point-to-Point Protocol (MLPPP). Ethernet access provides customers significantly more call throughput than DS3 access, while MLPPP access is a great choice for customers requiring more bandwidth than a T1 but less than a Fractional-T3.
