HIMSS Names AT&T Healthcare Director to "Fellow" Status
New Orleans, Louisiana, February 27, 2007
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), the premier association for leadership in the management of technology, information, and change in healthcare, has named Adena Handly, Healthcare Director for AT&T Southwest, to Fellow status.
Based in Little Rock, Ark., Handly has been a member of HIMSS since 2001 and has worked at AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T), since March 2003, providing health information technology consulting to hospitals and clinics, new regional health information organizations, and government agencies/contractors. In addition, she regularly advises healthcare organizations on how best to achieve successful clinical transformation through IT adoption.

HIMSS has approximately 20,000 members, with just more than 360 of those achieving Fellow status. Fellows, which must be a member of HIMSS for a minimum of five consecutive years, are recognized for their contributions to the healthcare industry through publications and presentations, and through their professional development and participation in HIMSS.
Handly is a 15-year healthcare industry veteran, with past experience that includes system selection, contract negotiation, implementation and evaluation in various healthcare settings. She discovered her passion for informatics when she was serving a dual role as the chief information officer and security officer at Drew Memorial Hospital in southeast Arkansas. Between 2001 and 2003, she served as the HIPAA Chairperson for the Arkansas Hospital Association State Task Force.
"Information technology is becoming increasingly important to improving patient care, worker productivity, and regulatory compliance," said Handly, a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMS). Handly earned a bachelor's degree in health education from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock.
She and other 2006 Fellows will be officially recognized Feb. 28 in New Orleans as part of the 2007 Annual HIMSS Conference & Exhibition.
