Customers eligible for self installation will be shipped
an installation kit to their home address (shipping &
handling charge applies). The installation kit will
contain all of the necessary information, equipment,
and access to our easy-to-follow Online Interactive
Assistant that will guide you through the installation
process – so, in less than 30 minutes, you can enjoy
all the features and benefits of AT&T U-verse Voice.

Wireless Gateway

The AT&T U-verse Wireless Gateway is an intelligent device that brings together all your U-verse TV, Internet, and Voice services and distributes them throughout your home. You may choose to hook up your U-verse Voice service by:
•    Plug and Play – Connect one phone directly into the Wireless Gateway, enabling only a single wall jack to continue to work.
•    Use Existing Phone Jacks – Allows for the use of all the wall jacks in your home. An existing phone jack must be located near the Gateway.

Battery Backup

AT&T U-verse Voice, like other Voice over Internet Protocol ("Voice over IP" or "VoIP") services, requires the electrical power in your home to operate. Depending on your service address, your AT&T U-verse Voice service will include either a Residential Gateway Battery Backup Unit ("BBU") or an iNID Power Supply Unit ("iPSU").

Phone

You can use your regular corded or cordless phones with U-verse Voice; you don’t need to buy a special digital phone.


U-verse Voice Installation

Do you qualify for U-verse Voice Self Installation?

If you already have U-verse TV or High Speed Internet service, then you’ve got what you need to install U-verse Voice yourself. However, if you have a monitored home alarm or don’t already have U-verse TV or High Speed Internet, you’ll need professional installation by an AT&T Technician.

Getting Started

If you're eligible for self installation, an installation kit will be shipped to your home address (shipping & handling charge applies). The installation kit will contain all of the necessary equipment and access to our Online Interactive Assistant for easy, step-by-step instructions.

Installation Options

Depending on the layout of your home, two installation options are available.

Option 1: Plug and Play capability

Option 2: Use Existing Phone Jacks

Please do not attempt installation of U-verse Voice until your installation due date. You’ll receive your installation due date when you place your order or in your U-verse Voice Welcome e-mail.

Connecting your Battery Backup Unit

Turn off your Gateway: Power down your Gateway by unplugging the Power Adapter. You will no longer need this power supply.

Add the Battery Backup Unit: Connect the Battery Backup by plugging the round connector into the Power port on the Gateway. Then connect the electrical plug to an electrical outlet. Switch the power to On. You should see a blinking then steady green Power light to indicate a successful connection.

Customers who select the Self Installation Option may also take advantage of reduced pricing on the purchase of select AT&T Dect 6.0 Cordless phone models once your U-verse Voice order has been placed.

911 Service

U-verse Voice customers are also automatically included in E911, a service that reveals your address and phone number to emergency dispatchers when you dial 911 in areas where this service is available.

Emergency/Terminal Backup

U-verse Voice, like all Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services, requires the electrical power in your home to operate. In case of power outage, U-verse Voice includes a Wireless Gateway Battery Backup unit with an initial backup battery.

This backup unit provides approximately 4 hours of battery backup time with a new, fully charged battery. So when the power goes out, your voice won’t.

U-verse Voice and Home Alarms

AT&T has conducted extensive testing, to ensure U-verse Voice will work with many types and brands of home alarms.
