Wi-Fi is a method of connecting Wi-Fi-enabled devices – such as personal computers, video game consoles, smartphones, and digital audio players – to the Internet through a wireless network access point (or “hotspot”). Wi-Fi hotspots are available all over the world; you may even have one in your home. If you have an AT&T smartphone, we give you free access to thousands of hotspots.

What does Wi-Fi access mean to you? Not only does Wi-Fi provide your smartphone or other mobile broadband device with a convenient, fast, seamless connection at home, in the office, and in thousands of hotspots, using Wi-Fi helps you save on your mobile data usage. Every time you connect to a Wi-Fi hotspot, you’re not increasing your 3G or 4G data usage.

To use Wi-Fi:

• Make sure you have a Wi-Fi-enable device. Most smartphones and other mobile broadband devices, such as tablets and Netbooks, are Wi-Fi compatible.
• Learn how to connect your device to Wi-Fi networks. AT&T has step-by-step videos that show how to connect most major smartphone brands.
• Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network.
  • If you’re near an AT&T hotspot, you’ll see “attwifi” in your network list. By choosing this network, you’ll be connected automatically.
  • If you’re connecting to a Wi-Fi network at home or at work, you may need to know the network name (SSID) and password.
  • Once you've connected to a specific Wi-Fi network successfully, your device will automatically connect you to that network every time you're in range.
