When your device is in do not disturb or silent mode, it will not make a sound to notify you of incoming notifications.

From the Home screen, press the Up navigation button.

Press the Left navigation button repeatedly to turn ringtones and alerts to vibrate.

Press the Left navigation button once to turn ringtones and alerts from vibrate to silent.
You can also use the Volume buttons to lower the volume to silent.
