Lock or Unlock the RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 using Handheld Software Version 6.0


Advisory

IMPORTANT: The device will automatically perfom a master reset if the password is incorrectly entered 10 times.

Instructions

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 Keypad Layout
 
Lock or unlock the keypad
 
Press the Lock key to toggle the lock on or off.
 
Unlock the device with a password
  1. Press any key.
  2. Scroll to and select Unlock (to select, press the trackpad or tap the screen).
      
      
  3. Enter the password, then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
      
Enable or disable password security lock
  1. On the Home screen, open the All tray, then scroll to and select the Options icon  (to select, press the trackpad or tap the screen).
  2. Scroll to and select Security.
          
     
  3. Scroll to and select Password.
       
       
  4. In the Enable field, perform one of the following:
    NOTE: If this device is registered on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BES Express, the IT/BES Administrator may have pushed an IT Policy to the handheld to automatically enable the Password Security Lock. If this is the case, there will not be an option to enable/disable the Password Security Lock and the following icon  will be displayed in the Enable field. For more information on the enabled IT Policies, please contact your IT/BES Administrator.
     
    • Enable password: Select the box to place a checkmark.
    • Disable password: Select the box to remove the checkmark.
  5. If desired, configure the additional security fields:
    FieldDescription
    Enable
    Enable or disable the password security lock feature.
    Set PasswordSet the desired password.
    Number of Password AttemptsSet the number of incorrect password attempts allowed before the device is automatically wiped.
    Security TimeoutSet the length of time between actions before the device is locked.
    Prompt on Application InstallEnable or disable the device to request a password when installing applications.
    NOTE: This option is only editable when a password is set to Enable.
    Allow Outgoing Calls While LockedEnable or disable the ability to place outbound calls while locked.
    NOTE: This option is only editable when a password is set to Enable.
    Lock Handheld Upon HolsteringEnable or disable the automatic lock when placing the device in a holster or dock.
    NOTE: This option is only editable when a password is set to Enable.
      
  6. Press the Menu key, then scroll to and select Save.
       
         
    • If Enabling a password
      1. Enter the desired "New Password", then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
           
         
      2. Re-enter the new password for verification, then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
           
          
    • If Disabling a password
      1. Enter the current password, then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
             
Change the password
  1. On the Home screen, open the All tray, then scroll to and select the Options icon  (to select, press the trackpad or tap the screen).
  2. Scroll to and select Security.
          
     
  3. Scroll to and select Password.
       
       
  4. Scroll to and select Change Password.
         
      
  5. Enter the current password, then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
      
      
  6. Enter the desired "New Password".
       
      
  7. Re-enter the new password for verification, then press the Enter key or the trackpad.
