Send or Receive an Audio, Picture, or Video Multimedia Message (MMS) with the RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 using Version 6.0


Advisory

IMPORTANT: Media content on an encrypted media card cannot be attached to email, text messages, or chats in BlackBerry Messenger. Media card encryption can be removed by selecting Options>Security>Encryption> and selecting the Media card checkbox.

NOTE: Encrypted media will have the .rem file extension.

Instructions

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 Keypad Layout 
 
Prerequisite
 
Verify the device displays at least two bars of signal.
 
Send a multimedia message (MMS)
  1. Scroll to and select the Text Messages icon  (to select, press the trackpad or tap the screen).
    NOTE: Text (SMS) and Picture (MMS) messages may be configured to display in the Messages inbox.
  2. Press the Menu key, then select Compose Text Message.
      
      
  3. Select or enter the desired recipient's information.
    • Send to an existing contact:
      1. Type in the name and select the desired contact.
          
          
      2. If multiple contact options exist for the address book entry, select the desired phone number or e-mail address.
        NOTE: If sending a message to an address book contact with only one address type entered, this message will not be displayed.
           
         
    • Enter the recipient information manually:
      1. Enter the 10-digit mobile number, then press the trackpad.
        NOTE: When sending an MMS to an international number, enter "+", "country code", then the wireless number.
           
          
  4. OPTIONAL:  To add more recipients, repeat Step 3.
       
      
  5. Scroll to the message body, press the Menu key, then select Attach.
    NOTE:  Alternatively, tap the Attach icon .
      
      
  6. Press the Menu key, then select the Multimedia content to attach to the MMS.
    NOTE: MMS size on a RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 must not exceed 600KB. To view the current message size, press the Menu key and select Options.
      
    • Picture
    • Video
    • Location
    • Audio
    • Voice Note
    • Contact
    • Appointment
       
  7. Scroll to and select the folder where the desired file is stored.
      
      
  8. Select the desired image.
      
       
  9. OPTIONAL:  Within the message body, enter any desired text.
     
      
  10. Press the Menu key, then select Send.
    NOTE:  Alternatively, tap the Send icon .
     
      
  11. Verify the message is successfully sent to the network.
    Icon Description
    Message is being sent.
    Message is pending (Will be sent later).
    Message was sent successfully to the network.
    Message returned, message transmition error.
     
Receive a mulitimedia message (MMS)
  1. Scroll to and select the Text Messages icon  (to select, press the trackpad or tap the screen).
    NOTE: Text (SMS) and Picture (MMS) messages may be configured to display in the Messages inbox.
  2. New multimedia messages will be displayed with the unread multimedia message (MMS) icon . Scroll to and select the desired message to open it.
     
      
  3. The message will be displayed. 
      
      
  4. Scroll to and select the image to display on full screen.
      
      
  5. The image will be displayed.
      
If unable to send or receive a multimedia message (MMS), troubleshoot accordingly 
  1. Verify the multimedia message (MMS) size is below the 600KB supported maximum for the RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800.
  2. Verify the firewall settings are not configured to block incoming MMS messages.
  3. Verify the device can connect to AT&T Mobile Web.
  4. Verify that SMS blocking and other dialing restrictions are disabled.
  5. Register the device on the network by performing a diagnostics test.
  6. Verify the following service books are present on the device.
    • MMS Transport [WPTCP]
    • MMS Client [MMS]
  7. If these service books are not present:
    • Register the device on the network for users with a RIM BlackBerry data rate plan.
    • Perform a Master Reset (Wipe Handheld) for users who do not have a RIM BlackBerry data rate plan.
  8. If needed, check for device issues and error messages.
