Instructions

Finger gestures

  • Tap: When you want to select on-screen applications and icons, or press onscreen buttons, tap them with your finger.
  • Tap and hold: To view the available options for an item, tap and hold it.
  • Slide: Quickly drag your finger horizontally across the screen to slide left or right to additional home screens or menu options.
  • Scroll: Tap and drag the screen up or down to scroll through lists, menus and web pages.
  • Flick: A light, quick, vertical stroke to quickly scroll to the bottom of lists, menus, and web pages.
  • Pinch to zoom: Some applications allow the use of 2 fingers (for example, thumb and index fingers) to shrink or stretch the display. This is helpful for viewing web pages and images.
  • Rotate: Some applications will automatically change the screen orientation from portrait to landscape when the phone is turned sideways. This is helpful for entering text, or viewing larger web pages and images.

Navigation

  • Start screen: Access the Start screen from anywhere on your device by pressing the  key at the bottom of your phone. The Start screen displays all of your commonly used applications as animated Live Tiles. Live Tiles are automatically updated to display important information such as new email or messages, missed calls, and your next calendar event. Tiles can be added, deleted, resized, or rearranged with just a tap and hold.

  • App menu: The App menu contains an alphabetical list of all applications installed on your phone. Access the App menu by sliding on the Start screen.

  • Hubs: A Hub is a collection of multiple services in one application. Hubs have slideable headings that each provide their own information and options. In the People Hub, slide from adding contacts to viewing social network updates. In the Games Hub, slide from viewing your Xbox LIVE profile to playing a game.

    • The People Hub

    • The Store Hub

  • Application specific menus: If an application doesn't list the option you're looking for, try tapping  to view the application specific menu. Opening this menu will provide labels for icons, and additional options not visible at first.
