Delete previous handheld software

The BlackBerry device automatically stores the old handheld software in case the user would like to revert back to the old version.  By doing this, it uses a large amount of memory on the device.  If the user is comfortable keeping the upgrade and does not anticipate reverting back to the old handheld software version, it is recommended to delete the previous handheld software to increase the available memory.

If unable to perform wireless upgrade

  1. Register the device by performing a Diagnostics Test.
  2. Verify the following service book exists on the device: Provisioning [OTASL].
  3. Verify IT policies do not exist on the device.
    1. If any IT policies exist on the device, please refer to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server or BES Express administrator for assistance.  If the administrator is not available, perform the handheld software upgrade via BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  4. Re-attempt to perform wireless upgrade.
  5. Remove the battery to reset your BlackBerry smartphone.
  6. Re-attempt to perform wireless upgrade.
