Connect to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot for a RIM BlackBerry

Connect to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot for a RIM BlackBerry

Instructions

RIM BlackBerry AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot connection

RIM BlackBerry devices with handheld software version 4.5 or above and a data rate plan are pre configured to automatically connect to owned and maintained AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot locations.  When the device enters an AT&T Hot Spot location with Wi-Fi enabled, the device will automatically connect to the hotspot location without the user performing any actions.  While connected to an AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spot, the BlackBerry browser and E-mail will default to transmit over the Wi-Fi network. All other services transmit over the AT&T mobile network.

Prerequisites Procedure
  1. Verify Wi-Fi connection status displays as connected.
  2. Scroll to and select the Browser icon (press the trackball to select).
  3. Verify Wi-Fi indicator displays at top of browser.
NOTE: Wi-Fi service only works with the BlackBerry browser, not MEdia Net.

If unable to connect to AT&T Wi-Fi Hotspot location
  1. Turn the power off and on again.
  2. Verify AT&T Wi-Fi profile is present.
    • If AT&T Wi-Fi profile does not present, perform a hard reset.
NOTE: A hard reset will automatically reconfigure the default AT&T Wi-Fi profile.
  3. Verify Wi-Fi Selection Mode is set to Automatic.
  4. Attempt to move closer to the Wi-Fi signal.  Walls and barriers may prevent full Wi-Fi connection.
    1. Perform a site survey to verify at least -80 dbm (signal strength).
NOTE: If unable to maintain -80 dbm or less (stronger), it may be difficult to maintain a persistent Wi-Fi connection.
  5. If further assistance is needed, please contact Customer Care.
