Back up, Sync & Transfer Content (iTunes)

Set up iTunes to sync, back up, or transfer your contacts, photos, music, apps, calendars, books, movies, ringtones, and more.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to:

• Access iTunes
• Restore iPad from backup
• Access your device over Wi-Fi
• Automatically sync iPad
• Manually sync iPad

 

Access iTunes

Connect the device to the computer using the included Lightning-to-USB cable, then from your computer open itunes iTunes.

Note: If it is your first time connecting your phone to iTunes, click the desired Device Pane then click Open in Finder. Select Get Started.

Restore iPad from backup

1. To back up content from iTunes to a new device, from itunes iTunes click the desired Device pane then click Sync Settings.

Note: Your device must be connected to you computer using the included Lightning-to-USB cable to appear in iTunes. When you click Sync settings, a new window will open in Finder.

2. Click Restore iPad, then follow the prompts.

Note: Find My must be disabled to restore your iPad. To turn off Find My, from your iPad select the settings app Settings app > Apple ID > Find My > Find My iPad > on switch Find My iPad switch.

Access your device over Wi-Fi

1. To access your device when your computer and the iPad are on the same Wi-Fi network, from itunes iTunes click the desired Device pane then click Sync Settings.

Note: Your device must be connected to you computer using the included Lightning-to-USB cable to appear in iTunes. When you click Sync settings, a new window will open in Finder.

2. Click the Show this iPad when on Wi-Fi checkbox, then click Apply to confirm.

Note: Whenever the computer and the iPad are on the same network, the iPad will appear in iTunes and you can sync it.

Automatically sync iPad

To set up automatic syncing, from the Finder window click the Automatically sync when this iPad is connected checkbox then click Apply to confirm.

Note: The iPad will sync automatically when the iPad is connected to the computer or when the iPad is plugged in to power, iTunes is open on the computer, and the iPad and the computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Manually sync iPad

When your iPad is connected to iTunes, from the Finder window click Sync at any time to sync your iPad.
