AT&T to Offer Mobile 5G on Magic Leap Campus in 2019 and a Spatial Computing Hackathon in November to Promote Development of Entertainment

AT&T* today announced plans to bring connectivity and content to Magic Leap to further create the future of entertainment. This announcement was made at L.E.A.P. - a Magic Leap conference in Los Angeles for developers and creators to Learn, Engage, Accelerate and Program.

This includes the launch of a 5G zone on the Magic Leap campus in Plantation, Florida, in 2019. 5G connectivity will give developers and creators the ability to test devices and applications on a 5G network right where the work is being done.

“New and immersive experiences from Magic Leap’s developers eventually riding on the AT&T mobile 5G network will redefine entertainment and productivity,” said John Donovan, chief executive officer, AT&T Communications. “And only AT&T is bringing us one step closer to the future of connectivity with the introduction of a mobile 5G network and a mobile 5G device in parts of 12 cities this year.”

AT&T, the exclusive wireless distributor to consumers in the U.S. of Magic Leap One (Magic Leap’s lightweight, wearable computer that enriches real world experience with digital content), will host a Spatial Computing Hackathon in San Francisco in November. To submit your ideas by October 22 and register for the event on November 9–11 at Shape.att.com.

AT&T also announced plans to launch a DIRECTV NOW Beta to Magic Leap One in 2019. This version of the app will give you a new level of control in how and where you watch. You’ll be able to place up to 4 live streams – a cooking show, news, an old movie and the football game – all at the same time. Check out a demo for what the experience could look like through the Magic Leap One.

With the launch of the headset this year, we plan to offer WarnerMedia content via demos in select stores, including characters or scenes from the latest Warner Bros. films reimagined for the Magic Leap platform. Eventually films, shows and games could follow you out of the stores and onto the streets or into your home.
