Honoring the Sacrifices, Valor, and Service of U.S. Veterans
Today we commemorate Veterans Day - a moment in time to show our appreciation for all who have served in the military. Veterans touch our lives every day - be it on the field or in civilian life. Their dedication, valor and sacrifice have been instrumental to defend and preserve freedoms and sense of democracy that we value.
For Audrey Marks, a Navy veteran who comes from a military family, Veterans Day holds special significance as a time to honor the brave men and women who stood up for the beliefs, values, rights, and freedoms we hold in this country. She can trace her paternal family history back to the Second Battle of Bull Run in 1862. Her grandfather fought in World War II, her dad is a Marine and she has many other relatives who have courageously served the country. The value of freedom is also represented on her maternal side; her mother and grandparents are Cuban immigrants who fled the Castro regime on a Freedom Flight, a program which operated in the late 60s and early 70s to help refugees who sought safety from the oppression of the dictatorship.
“Transitioning to civilian life was, and continues to be, challenging for veterans,” says Audrey, Public Sector director at AT&T. “I am grateful to work for a company like AT&T that is committed to supporting active military personnel, their families and veterans like me. When I joined in 2016, I was embraced by a warm and welcoming company culture that values the skills, leadership, and experiences that veterans bring to the corporate world.”
Our commitment to supporting veterans is shared by our employees. For more than 39 years, our AT&T Veterans employee group, made up of more than 6,500+ members, has served those who have served our country by offering support and resources for those transitioning into civilian lives as well as engaging with organizations like Carry the Load.
In 2020, AT&T was honored to be selected by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), to deliver a modernized data communications platform that will serve as a foundation for innovative VA technology capabilities. And because we recognize the value in preserving the stories of sacrifice from those who have served our country, we are proud to be the founding sponsor of the National Medal of Honor Museum, set to unveil in 2024 in Arlington, Texas.
