I had a perfectly working LG xpression that I had had for several years since it had a qwerty keyboard and buttons that would allow me to access features without the use of the screen. Anyone with poor circulation knows that touch screens do not respond well to their touch. So when AT&T decided to upgrade their network and sent me a new device I called customer service while my phone was still working since the SIM cards were very different sizes.
I talked to Valery who said she had set up my new device so when the old one stopped working I would be able to put the new sim in the new device and turn off the old one. This did not work.
I also purchased two different unlocked phones that were labeled as working on AT&T's network and were minimum 4g enabled.
Neither one worked. Nor did the Calypso model I was sent directly from AT&T.
So I headed to this store in waltham where I interacted with Jason. Jason's first comment that he had had my model of phone as his first phone. I told both persons at the desk my issue (qwerty keyboard, file transfer, classic phone dropped service while at a Business Convention.)
I was told they had qwerty models of phone in store. I asked to see them since Valery from the customer service line told me that they didn't carry ANY phones with a qwerty keyboard as they were not in demand. This was news to the store associates and they did not show me what they said they had available.
Then, in store, I was told that I would not be able to transfer my contacts or data there in store since everything was now google based.
When i purchased my LG xpression in December of 2016 from an AT&T store in Natick I was told that I would never have to worry about making sure my data got transferred ever again as I would either be able to connect the device via cable or simply swap the Sim.
Well in 2022 that turns out to be a lie as when I asked about transferring my data I was told that they no longer had those cables to perform data transfers in store. I was told that I could go to geeksquad (I work IT and started my career with Geeksquad's direct competitor easy Tech from staples; geek squad charges $150 just to look at the device.)
I was not about to pay a week's worth of groceries for what AT&T should be doing in store for free as they do for every customer that has a google-platform phone).
So right off the bat we have device discrimination.
Then, I had to sit for two hours and manually hand-write all of my contacts over onto paper so that I could program them to the new device later. That alone took two hours.
By then Manager Gary had left the store (it was about 3pm (i had walked in a little after 1pm)and Gary was scheduled to leave at 4pm that day. I had overheard the other associate telling a customer that over the phone.)
Once I had what I needed off my classic device I headed back to the counter for another round with Jason, both associates were lounging in the front windows and not paying attention.
Jason whom had my model of phone as his personal device previously, didn't know where to find the SIM, then Jason told me he had the phone when he was ten...
I asked him if he needed the IMEI off the SIM card for the new device before I installed it into the Calypso. He said he did not.
While he was figuring out that Valery from customer Service had not activated the new sim for the new devices correctly, I asked Jason why AT&T would not stock the data transfer cables in all of their stores when they know that they will be shutting off older devices in waves (without a final day of service message I might add) and there will be potentially hundreds of customers whom prefer their older devices with the same problem.
Jason's answer was that he was just a sales floor associate and he didn't make decisions for the company. Frankly that is an unacceptable answer for a major telecommunications company whom should know very well that they are causing problems and dissatisfaction with their customer base.
My previous IT position had me working with another carrier to activate and set up phones for our end users so I know the process as well as your own people. I've activated hundreds of devices in the last two years.
To be told that your "Floor level associates" are not even going to try, not going to research the IMEI I was already given for the new device, not look up the account to see that there had indeed been a previous service call to try and resolve the issues and nothing was done.
In utter frustration I asked for my service to be shut off twice during our conversation and I wanted a refund for the monthly service I JUST payed for, I was refused a refund and told to call customer service. I asked how I was supposed to do that without a working phone.
While I was offered to use the in-store phone to call the service center, this should be something that in-store clerks should have the power to do or at least setRespuesta de AT&Tjunio 14, 2022Hi Kerridwen! Went in because my phone broke and I needed a new one. Was told I would have to sign up for a new, more expensive plan to use the new phone, but that because of an association with my employer, I'd get a discount bringing the price down to about the same price as my previous plan, that would kick in after 2-3 months. It's now been over 4 months, and after being told by customer service every month that the discount would kick in on the next bill, I'm now told that the plan I signed up for is not eligible for the discount that the sales person in this store told me I would get when I signed up.
Do not go here, do not use AT&T, they will lie to your face, delay telling you that they lied until after the return period has passed, then say that there is nothing they can do about it. The customer service was fantastic! Shana and Sophia a pros. Both were extremely helpful. Shana helped me chose a new phone that would be best for me and then patiently helped me transfer all the data from my old phone to my new phone.
