AT&T Introduces Service in South Dakota, Giving South Dakotans Access to the Nation's Fastest Mobile Broadband Network and More Innovation Mobile Devices

AT&T launches service for former Alltel subscribers, expanding access to the nation's fastest mobile broadband network across rural areas and offering a wide selection of compelling devices

Pierre, South Dakota, April 12, 2011

South Dakotans now have access to the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network. AT&T* rebranded Alltel to AT&T in this area on April 10 and is introducing an exciting lineup of products and services to these customers.1

Since its acquisition of the Alltel wireless assets in South Dakota, AT&T has invested significantly to transition the former Alltel network infrastructure to AT&T. Former Alltel customers across the state will now have access to the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network and to AT&T’s broad portfolio of mobile devices.

“We’re thrilled to bring AT&T’s products and services to the state of South Dakota and to welcome former Alltel customers to the AT&T community —  we’re confident that they will enjoy a fantastic wireless experience with AT&T,” said Hardmon Williams, vice president and general manager for AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets in South Dakota. “We’ve been working nonstop to upgrade the Alltel network. AT&T’s network integration in South Dakota expands the reach of our mobile broadband network and demonstrates AT&T’s ongoing commitment to bring the benefits of mobile broadband to as many Americans as possible.

“Today we’re proud that customers in South Dakota have access not only to the nation’s fastest mobile broadband network but also to the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider — with voice service in more than 220 countries and data service in 200 countries.”

Former Alltel consumer wireless customers in South Dakota had the option to receive a brand new AT&T handset, comparable to their existing device, at no additional cost.2 The vast majority of customers choosing free comparable devices are able to keep their existing rate plans, with no additional term commitment required.

Customers may also choose to upgrade their devices with a new two-year contract, an AT&T rate plan and any associated data plan.3 Customers choosing an AT&T rate plan can enjoy Mobile to Any Mobile, which gives customers unlimited calling to any mobile number in the United States, and A-List with Rollover®, exclusive to AT&T, which offers unlimited calling to up to 10 additional numbers on any network and allows customers to keep their unused Anytime Minutes for up to 12 months.4

AT&T will transition service for former Alltel subscribers over the coming weeks and is committed to ensuring a smooth transition for all customers. Prior to customers’ transition dates, AT&T will communicate by text message and soundbite with customers the specific date and details of their transition to AT&T, and in the meantime, their existing devices will continue to work on the legacy Alltel network.

Customers with questions about the transition process may visit, call (800) 331-0500 or speak with an AT&T sales representative at a local retail location.
