AT&T's Learning and Development Practices Recognized

Dallas, Texas, February 08, 2012

AT&T’s learning and development practices received broad recognition from the HR research and consulting firm Bersin & Associates (Bersin), which named it to its list of 2012 Learning Leaders™ Winners.

Specifically, Bersin recognized AT&T for its:

  • Leading with Distinction program, which helps leaders at all levels align with the company’s strategy, enhance their capabilities, identify opportunities to drive business success, and foster collaboration across business units and geographic boundaries.
  • Consolidation of its learning management system, which brought all leader-led learning, virtual classrooms, simulations and Web-based training onto one platform.
  • Two-pronged training program that helped unite separate collections organizations after a merger.
  • Learning organization, which consists of two primary branches – its corporate AT&T University and Learning Services – governed by multiple learning councils and task teams.  The approach helps to promote productivity, ensure business alignment and build credibility with senior leaders.

“This year’s Learning Leaders demonstrate that the focus of learning has evolved from simply building a skill set to driving the right skills for competitive business advantage,” said Kim Lamoureux, Bersin’s senior director of research practices and principal analyst. “Learning teams increasingly measure how training and development contribute to the top and bottom lines of their organization. Social networking for the first time played a role in almost every entry, enabling learning and talent leaders to leverage the expertise of their people to find new talent and train current employees without creating formal programs. ”

“We’re honored by the recognition from Bersin & Associates, a firm that is familiar with the best HR practices in corporate America,” said Debbie Storey, AT&T senior vice president, talent development, and chief diversity officer. “As a company whose future depends on its ability to innovate, AT&T puts a tremendous amount of effort – led by our CEO – into aligning and developing leaders and ensuring our employees at all levels have the tools and knowledge they need to exceed our customers’ and shareowners’ expectations..
