AT&T Announces New Five-Year Voice and Data Services Contract with Parsons District Schools
Parsons, Kansas, August 22, 2006
AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced a new voice and data services contract with Parsons District Schools. The southeastern Kansas district has more than 1,500 students in seven schools. Under the terms of the five-year contract, AT&T will implement a Customized Switched Metro Ethernet (CSME) solution and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) services to connect the district's seven schools under a single network for increased reliability and redundancy. The enhanced solution will also provide an integrated local area network (LAN) infrastructure, which will support the connection between each of the school buildings. Parsons District Schools will realize higher reliability and faster data communications between each of the schools, and with the implementation of CSME, the school's information-technology department will be able to consolidate various computer servers securely through a single location.
The ATM service will deliver a secure Internet connection through Parsons District Schools' central office, which will feed onto the CSME connection and deliver the same secure access at each school location throughout the district. Additionally, the solution, which aligns with AT&T's convergence strategy, will provide the school district with new technologies and fiber connections at each of the school buildings, supporting Internet connectivity for student use throughout the school.
"We were in need of a provider that is capable of connecting our seven district locations and reducing our operating expenses," said Paul Langford, information technology director of Parsons District Schools. "We are confident that the solution provided by AT&T will not only reduce our costs and deliver connectivity for all seven school locations but also enable new technologies so that the district can remain compliant with state regulated requirements and procedures."
