AT&T Brings South Florida's Fastest Wireless Broadband Network to the Treasure Coast

Company Delivers Ultrafast Mobile Access to Interactive Content and Mobile Applications

AT&T wireless users in Martin and St. Lucie counties now have access to South Florida's fastest wireless broadband network — the AT&T third-generation (3G) network. AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) announced today the expansion of 3G service to the Treasure Coast.

AT&T's 3G network is the fastest wireless broadband network in South Florida based on drive-test results from a leading independent wireless research firm that provides performance measurements for the wireless industry. The network delivers typical download speeds ranging from 600 to 1,400 Kbps. Customers using an AT&T 3G handset can download a game or ringtone or access e-mail in a fraction of the time that it used to take.

The nation's largest wireless carrier rolled out its South Florida 3G network in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties last fall and in the Florida Keys earlier this month. The company is excited to extend the network to the Treasure Coast.

The AT&T 3G wireless broadband network allows customers to take advantage of advanced, on-the-go wireless services such as:

  • Video Share — A groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind service in the U.S. that allows users to share live video over wireless phones while carrying on a voice call.
  • CV — An on-demand streaming video service that lets users watch video clips of their favorite TV shows, movies, news, weather, sports and more.
  • AT&T Mobile Music — An integrated music experience that allows one-click access to a complete suite of music-related content, including the most comprehensive music subscription service of its kind in the U.S.

The AT&T 3G network also mobilizes businesses at high speed. AT&T LaptopConnect — which simply requires a LaptopConnect card or a laptop with embedded 3G capability, software and an AT&T data plan — gives businesses the ability to use their laptops at DSL-like speeds to access business applications, including personal and business e-mail, corporate networks/intranets, back-end business applications and the Internet.

AT&T provides 3G services in more than 200 metropolitan areas, with plans to expand to additional markets by the end of the year. AT&T has invested more than $800 million in its Florida wireless network since 2005 to improve coverage and expand its 3G footprint throughout the state.

AT&T's 3G network is the first widely available service in the world to use HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology. HSDPA is the high speed evolution of GSM/EDGE (Global Systems for Mobile Communications/Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution), which shares a common core network. As a result, in areas in which the AT&T 3G network is not available, customers will automatically receive service on the company's EDGE network.
