Dallas, Texas, Liberty Lake, Washington, April 17, 2009

AT&T* today announced that the Uptime Institute has selected AT&T for its Global Green 100 list. The list recognizes companies that have made significant energy efficiency achievements in their enterprise IT and data center operations.

The Global Green 100 companies were honored Wednesday at the Green Enterprise IT Awards in New York City. The awards ceremony, which was co-hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy, is part of the 4th Annual Institute Research Symposium: LEAN, CLEAN, and GREEN,

AT&T joins other FORTUNE 500 and InformationWeek 500 organizations that have demonstrated a board-level commitment to making their data centers and IT operations more sustainable.

"AT&T is deeply committed to running our business in a sustainable manner – including a dedicated focus on energy efficiency. This is particularly true when it comes to our data center operations," said Chris Rice, executive vice president for Shared Services, AT&T Operations. "Growing energy costs and an increased need for data center power can make data center efficiency a challenge, but we're constantly working to make incremental improvements, and we're honored to be recognized for these efforts."

In addition to working to manage the energy consumption of its data centers, AT&T is committed to collaborating with industry groups to develop new approaches to measuring and improving energy efficiency. AT&T is a member of The Green Grid, the global consortium dedicated to advancing energy efficiency in data centers and business computing ecosystems. AT&T also supplies data center performance information to assist the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in developing a new ENERGY STAR rating for data center infrastructure.

Membership in The Green Grid and participation in the ENERGY STAR data center initiative underscore AT&T's commitment to minimize the environmental impact of its operations and to work collaboratively with industry organizations and suppliers to identify optimal solutions and best practices. AT&T is also a member of the Alliance for Telecommunication Industry Solutions (ATIS), a technical planning and standards development organization that works to develop and promote technical and operations standards for the communications and related information technologies industries worldwide. As a chair of the ATIS Network Interface, Power and Protection-Telecommunications Energy Efficiency (NIPP-TEE) subcommittee, AT&T is helping develop industry standards for measuring and stating energy efficiency of telecommunications network equipment.
