AT&amp;T also offers digital home phone service that works over your internet connection. AT&amp;T Phone digital home phone service offers more calling features and requires a separate AT&amp;T internet service of 1.5Mbps or higher.

Digital home phones are home telephones that use VOIP (voice over IP) technology to deliver telephone service over an internet connection. AT&amp;T digital home phone service operates similarly as a traditional landline &ndash; calls can be made by dialing a number and can be ended by hanging up the handset.

Digital phone service also comes with several additional features. AT&amp;T Phone lets users make and receive calls over their AT&amp;T high-speed internet connection, with over 25+ convenient calling features and delivers great sound quality.

A battery backup is not required for AT&amp;T Phone.

Unlike traditional phone lines, digital phone lines are not self-powered and require an external power source. So, while a battery backup is not required, it can keep digital phone service powered in an electrical outage.
